No garden is complete without the right bed border - because it gives the outdoor area structure and ensures order. We will show you some ideas on how you can build the bed border and give you an overview of the materials.
If you want to border your beds, you basically have several options to choose from - you can have a low, decorative wooden fenceuse, buy a version made of metal or rubber band or use different edging elements made of natural stone/cast stone. Basically, all of these alternatives are associated with high costs. Roof tiles and bricks are a cost-effective alternative. You can also use gravel, river stones, glass bottles or recycled wood (e.g. pallet wood). Our tip – measure the garden in advance, create a sketch and mark the edging on it. Then calculate exactly how many meters you will need for your project.
The version made of natural stone looks natural and is a nice addition to the country house style garden, but unfortunately also more expensive. A cost-effective alternative is so-called stone casting - it is made from cement but has a similar look. It is easy to process and the possibilities for the molds are almost endless. You can use white cement to make the cast stone version, as it can be easily colored as desired. This way you can build an original bed border that harmonizes perfectly with the style and design of your garden.
If you would like to build a high-quality bed border and specifically separate the garden in different areas, then the bed border with Corten steel is a good choice. The material is particularly weather-resistant and the elements do not require a special substructure. The natural rust creates beautiful accents in the garden and fits well into any garden style. In this way you give the garden area a clear structure and at the same time achieve beautiful landscaping.
If you want a very special garden design, you can border the outdoor beds with different materials. This is how they can be distinguished by type. You can also border a bed with a combination of materials. In this case, the selected borders should have a different height, structure and color in order to visually differ from each other. A good example of this can be seen in the picture. Here, natural stone, gravel and clinker stone were combined for the bed border. This means the bed immediately becomes an eye-catcher in the garden.
There are even a variety of options for a stone version. In addition to natural stone and clinker, boulders or river stones can also be used to border the beds. These are easy to find in nature and therefore cost nothing. In addition, every bed border made of river stones is unique, like the stones themselves. If you have decided on a garden design without lawn, you can replace the lawn with gravel and lay the boulders directly in the gravel.
Cast stone as a bed border is not only inexpensive, but can be designed in any shape. You decide for yourself whether round, square, with flowers or other decorations. This variant is perfect for an exotic garden with mulch and green perennials. Stoneware can be used to build beautiful borders that visually separate the mulch from the lawn.
Wood is a popular option because of its beautiful appearance and natural effect. If you're on a tight budget, you can even use pallet wood, which is much cheaper but still looks just as good. The pallets can be easily redesigned and fit perfectly with the border of raised beds.
If you like the look of old wood, you can use recycled wood. The reclaimed wood has a more natural look and is therefore perfect for traditional gardens. You can use it to build a small wooden fence for your flower bed and create order in the garden area.
If you dream of a lushly planted country house garden that impresses with lots of colors and wonderful scents, then you need a beautiful border. Otherwise, plants can form runners and spread all over the garden. However, not all materials can be used for bordering beds in country house gardens. Materials such as metal or rubber bands simply do not suit this very special garden style. However, you can't go wrong with a stone surround. The stones give the country house garden a romantic touch and combine wonderfully with the flowering beds.
As an alternative to stone, you can build a bed border made of wood for country house style garden design. Here, however, old wood is primarily meant because it creates the popular rustic look. Combinations of wood and stone can also be an advantage in the country house garden and create beautiful accents in the outdoor area.
Natural stone is generally more expensive and is therefore only preferred in smaller gardens. To create a harmonious overall picture in the garden area, you can combine the bed border with natural stone with a garden path made of the same material.
