Green caterpillars: Hungry herbivores

Identifying features:Green caterpillars in raised beds are usually the larvae of various species of butterflies such as the cabbage white butterfly or the coal owl. They often sit well camouflaged on leaves and are one of themost famous caterpillar species in Germany.

Damage to plants:Green caterpillars eat leaves and can defoliate entire plants.

Combat strategies:

  • Find caterpillars by hand and remove them.
  • Use biological insecticides such as Bacillus thuringiensis.
