Outdoor kitchen in the garden – the right planning makes it possible!

Conventional grills are certainly a practical thing and undoubtedly serve their purpose. However, you have to admit that a wholeOutdoor kitchen in the gardenis much more stylish and also makes preparing meals a lot more pleasant. If you plan it yourself, you have the opportunity to add all the necessary accessories to it. This way you get the same comfort as in the traditional kitchen in the house. In this article we would like to offer you some tips that can be helpful if you want to design your own kitchen. We will explain the advantages to you and show and explain the design variants so that you can get some inspiration for planning your kitchen. This way you can be sure that nothing important is forgotten to integrate.

Build or brick

The best way to adapt the kitchen to your wishes and requirements is to use itbuild yourself. This also reduces costs significantly. The homemade kitchen consists of a basic structure. This is closed with the front parts, i.e. the individually selected cabinet doors and the side walls, with a rear wall, the appearance of which does not matter because it is not visible. There is also a pretty worktop at the top. This enables comfortable work and should offer enough free space. You are welcome to design a worktop out of tiles. It is important that the surface is robust and waterproof. After all, the kitchen will be exposed to all weather conditions.

Brick kitchen

The homemade outdoor kitchen in the garden becomes even more robust if you build it with bricks. Instead of wood or plywood, simply use stone or brick, depending on your taste. Although bricklaying can be difficult for beginners, it can also be done by a bricklayer. Only three sides of the cabinets are bricked. It is best to use wood or metal for the doors. The latter should be rust-free. Steel is a great option that also looks very modern. Which way you choose to build depends entirely on your skills and the style you want to achieve. Teak is a very popular material for outdoor use in general. It is a little more expensive than other types of wood. However, the investment is worth it because the wood lasts a lifetime.

Kitchen equipment and accessories

The more appliances the kitchen has, the easier it is to work there. A refrigerator is essential, especially in summer. But smaller devices such as a coffee machine can also prove useful. In order for all of these things to work, a power source is of course necessary. Alternatively, gas can also be used. However, you should keep in mind that bottled gas and especially a gas refrigerator can become quite expensive in the long run. Another disadvantage is that gas refrigerators do not have a freezer compartment. And what kind of torture would summer and summer parties be without the refreshing, ice-cold drinks that you get thanks, among other things, to the ice cubes freshly taken from the freezer.

Storage space

For this reason, a power connection is important for the kitchen. However, gas is a wonderful idea for the stove. In this case you can even save money. The grill can also use gas, unless you prefer the good old charcoal grill. You probably won't need an oven outdoors. If you still value it, we recommend a pizza oven. Not only pizzas can be prepared in it. You can also bake homemade breads that have a special flavor thanks to the traditional oven. In addition to the large work surface, plenty of storage space and of course storage space are also very important. As you know from the indoor kitchen, you can never have enough space. Cabinets and drawers offer the opportunity to store glasses, plates and cutlery so that you don't have to carry them from inside to outside every time. If you want it to be more luxurious, you can integrate a variety of appliances into the kitchen or have them integrated.

Location

As you can see, the location should be based primarily on where you can get electricity best. The terrace is probably best suited for this because it is usually right next to the house. This is also the easiest way to get water. You need this for the sink, which should definitely not be missing in the kitchen. If you don't want to lay a new water pipe, simply use the garden hose. The plug-in system makes the connection child's play and thus saves costs for excavations and new pipes. In addition, the water can be turned off quickly and you can remove the hose at any time to water the garden. There are two solutions available to you for wastewater: Either you dig and connect the sink to the house's sewer or you simply place a larger bucket in the cupboard under the sink. Then simply throw away the accumulated water. The sink of the new kitchen can be used directly to clean your home-grown vegetables and fruits. This way you avoid the long journey inside and you can prepare the salads outside and in the company of your guests, instead of in isolation indoors.

Size of the kitchen

The size of the outdoor kitchen in the garden depends on how much space you need to work and what equipment you plan to use. And if you have a lot of free space outside, you should use it too. An L-shaped kitchen is perfect, just like indoors, not only if you want to build the kitchen outdoors, but also if it is to be located in the house. One of the sides of the kitchen can start at the house, creating a U-shape together with the house facade. It is best to integrate the refrigerator and the sink into this leg. In order to be able to accommodate everything important and so that there is no lack of space, it is best to choose a length of at least three meters for both legs, provided you have enough space. The resulting free space in the kitchen can also be used in the form of a counter, so that your guests can chat with you while you cook.

You also know it from the kitchen in the house: no matter how careful you are when frying or cooking, you cannot avoid splashes of fat. And sometimes it happens that you just knock something over or make a mess. For this reason, choosing the right floor is just as important as choosing the right materials for the kitchen itself. Choose a floor covering that is easy to clean. There is also a risk of slipping outside! As attractive as a floor made of smooth natural stone may look, it is not very suitable for the kitchen. If you still value natural stone, choose a model with a rough surface. Porcelain stoneware is also very suitable. You can choose the flooring in any color and match it to the kitchen. The selection is sufficiently large these days. Don't forget to pay attention to quality. The floor covering should be weatherproof and winterproof so that the investment is worthwhile in the long term.

Mobile outdoor kitchen

A mobile kitchen is practical and also more compact and therefore ideal for small gardens. These have wheels and can be moved flexibly. Are you cooking or finished? No problem, simply move the kitchen aside to create more space. Sun protection is also easier to guarantee here. If you don't have a roof or it isn't enough to protect you from the sun when cooking outdoors in summer, the compact, mobile kitchen even allows you to protect yourself with an ordinary parasol. This means you are not obliged to invest in a roof.

Space-saving and stowable solution

But that's not all that makes the mobile outdoor kitchen in the garden beat the static one. While the latter is exposed to moisture in winter and should therefore be covered with a protective film, the mobile can be stored away wonderfully. It can easily fit in the gazebo, shed or even in the garage. When it's time for your next barbecue or your first outdoor dinner in spring, you can easily take it out again and it will still look like new.

Build your own mobile kitchen

You can also build a mobile kitchen yourself and it's even easier than the big one. A quick option is to use serving trolleys for this purpose. These already have wheels and a finished frame, so you can save time. You then connect the carts to a worktop. Granite is also very suitable for outdoor use. You can close the frames of the carts with plywood to create cupboards for storage. In principle, you can use the serving trolleys entirelyredesign according to your ideas. Plus, take it a step further and even use three serving carts that you connect together so that they can rotate. Depending on your mood or space, you can have an L-shaped or U-shaped kitchen and put it back together compactly after use. Cut holes in the countertops for the stove and sink and you have your compact, homemade kitchen.

Advantages

The outdoor kitchen in the garden has many advantages. Firstly, as already mentioned, you are not alone in the kitchen while the rest of the family or guests are entertaining outside. You'll be in good company and that makes preparing and cooking meals that much more enjoyable. The same applies if you spontaneously want to prepare something else. You can also use the kitchen as a small bar and prepare cocktails or other drinks. It should also be mentioned that thanks to the storage space in the kitchen, you now have all utensils such as dishes and cutlery close by. This not only makes it easier to set the table, but also to clean up after dinner.
