The furniture for this roof terrace consists of modular wooden elements

The roof terrace is a nice addition to the urban loft. Of course, it offers more design options than a small balcony, but also requires more planning due to the larger area. You can spend a whole day here, with the right furniture of course. In this article we would like to show you a great example of how a real oasis of well-being with additional benefits can be created on the roof terrace. The furniture for this roof terrace is characterized by a modular construction and impresses with its versatility.

The customers' wish was to have an attractive and functional roof terrace where many activities could be carried out. Whether working outdoors, doing yoga, having a romantic dinner for two or hosting a big party - theDesign of the roof terraceshould meet many different needs of owners. That's why the architects from Boston-based J.Rock Design opted for a modular furniture design that allowed them to make optimal use of the available space. The floor covering merges into several elegantly curved areas for sitting or relaxing, creating a balanced space on several levels. Thanks to the built-in furniture, the roof terrace does not appear overloaded.

Since the residential building is located in a historic district, adjacent to a park, it was unlikely that oneinnovative designer solutionswould be approved. For this reason, the furnishing of the roof terrace was treated as a flexible combination of different modules. And without the use of screws or nails. The individual wooden elements were not permanently attached to the roof surface, but can be completely disassembled at any time as required. If small repairs are necessary, the damaged parts can be removed and replaced without tools.

The type of wood used is called Sapele. This wood does not rot or worm, is very easy to process and looks very beautiful. The individual wooden elements were cut using a CNC milling machine and connected together using a traditional Japanese method without nails or screws. With milled grooves, each wooden part fits onto the supporting metal frame. A pergola made of sapele wood slats provides pleasant shade on hot days, while the grasses and perennials create a natural atmosphere. In the evening, the LED lighting creates an atmospheric ambience.
