Wash your sweater properly
When cleaning natural fibers, it is best to do it by hand to be on the safe side. Pre-treat any stains before washing. Remember to dry your sweaters for at least two days when you use themwash by handwant.
Machine washing is an option for many sweaters made from synthetic fabrics and even some cotton sweaters. Since cotton sweaters are natural fabrics, there is a risk that they will shrink or stretch. To machine wash a sweater, turn it inside out and place it in a laundry net. Wash in cold water with moderate detergent on a gentle cycle.
This is what you need
- White vinegar
- A high quality hair care product without silicone - hair conditioner
- Large cling film or ziplock bag
- A clean cloth
Step-by-step instructions
1. Place the sweater in a bowl of water and vinegar
Vinegar can not only remove odors from laundry: it can also soften the fibers of natural materials such as wool and even replace fabric softener. You can soak the sweater in a mixture of four teaspoons of white vinegar and enough cold water to cover it in a large wash bowl, squeezing the fibers with the palm of your hand to ensure they are saturated.
Note the following:If you want to prevent your clothes from shrinking in the future, cold water is very important.
2. Then let it soak for about fifteen to twenty minutes.
3. Hand wash the sweater with a good quality hair conditioner
Then place the soaked sweater in clean water and begin washing it to remove any traces of vinegar. The sweater will be very heavy and soaked by this point, so this step may require a lot of physical effort. Squeeze out plenty of water.
After rinsing, lay the sweater flat in the bottom of a tub and then generously apply a good quality hair conditioner. Rub the conditioner into the wool with your hand. To avoid unsightly product buildup that can affect the appearance of clothing, it is important to use a quality hair conditioner. This helps protect the fibers from silicones.
Leave the conditioner on for half an hour and rinse the garment again to remove excess conditioner and squeeze out any remaining water. Make sure you get as much out of it as possible.

4. After drying, lay flat on a towel
It is important to lay wool clothing, blankets, or rugs flat to dry so that they do not expand while wet. This applies to all heavy natural materials, including wool.
You can use a drying rack and a dry towel to do this: lay the sleeves flat on your body so that they air dry overnight. It may take a long time because the garment is thick. In the morning, swap out the towel underneath and turn the sweater over to allow the other side to dry completely. Place the sweater in a warm place, such as next to a heater, or use a dehumidifier to speed up the process.
5. Seal the garment in an airtight container and place it in the freezer for at least another night
After the garment has dried thoroughly, you can seal it in a plastic bag and place it in the freezer overnight. The freezing temperatures prevent the tightly packed fibers from standing out and irritating sensitive skin. After that, you can roll the sweater up into a tight ball and put it in the drawer to warm up for about eight hours. Then lay it flat again.
