In principle, the following recommendations should work well for most soda makers.
Descaling the soda maker: instructions
- Follow the instructions on the cleaning product packaging to dispense the correct amount.
- Add a cleaning tablet or citric acid (2 tbsp powder form or 50ml liquid citric acid) to the SodaStream bottle and fill to the line with warm (not hot) water.
- Place the bottle in the device and press the bubble button for a few seconds.
- Now let the detergent work for about 15 minutes, making sure that the bubbler nozzle remains in the water.
- After the exposure time, rinse the bottle two to three times with clean water.
- Wipe the nozzle with a clean cloth and dry it.

Clean the bottles and remove odors
To clean the SodaStream bottles, you can use the same methods as descaling.
Get rid of odors with lemon and warm water
After repeated use, you may notice unpleasant odors from the bottles of your soda maker. Warm water and lemon juice can eliminate these odors by killing the bacteria that cause them.
Fill your SodaStream bottle almost to the top with warm water and squeeze the juice of a lemon into the bottle. Shake the bottle with the lid closed to mix the lemon juice and water. Leave the mixture in the bottle for 10 to 20 minutes and then rinse before letting it dry.

Compared to citric acid, vinegar has an unpleasant odor that sometimes remains even after cleaning. If you use this home remedy to descale your device, you should then wash the bottle with water and detergent and let it air out well.
