Architect María Marcos Calvo was commissioned to renovate and decorate a 400 m² house in the center of Valladolid, Spain. The house is close to Campo Grande Park and has beautiful views of the surrounding countryside. The park is the green lung of the city and fascinates with its ever-changing character. Depending on the season, the colors of the landscape change, making the view a new experience. But there is something else that makes this park so special - the presence of a large colony of peacocks that give the whole thing a unique atmosphere. It was precisely this valued feature of the park that inspired this project. What immediately comes to mind is a green velvet sofa. Velvet looks very elegant and is reminiscent of the silky plumage of peacocks.
The visual experience of the park is determined by a uniform color palette that varies from emerald green to cobalt blue to lemon yellow. The living room is the real highlight of this project. Its dimensions and proportions, resulting from the previous union of two houses, make it the most important living area.
The living room is extra long and narrow, measuring 25 meters by about 5 meters. These dimensions give the room a unique linearity. This circumstance forced the architectural team to divide the entire living space into several areas that can be enjoyed at the same time at certain moments.
The entrance hall offers direct access to the large room, which, due to its position, marks an axis and houses two different areas of use: the living area and the dining area.
The living area consists of several comfortable seating areas with relaxing chairs and sofas where you can chat or read quietly. The reading corner is separated from the small living room by a free-standing wall in which a bio-fireplace and a rotary TV element are installed.
The atmosphere of the dining room also offers a spatial duplicity, as there are two dining tables - a main table for family events and a second for everyday use or possible complement to the first. Another interesting idea for room dividers are the wooden boxes with bamboo plants, which can be moved back and forth thanks to the integrated wheels.
This room layout is inspired by the full color palette of the different seasons. Cool winter tones likeEisblauand white we see in the bedroom and in the small TV room. Autumn colors determine the ambience in the dining area. Spring reigns in the reading area and summer in the main area, where there are two green velvet sofas with yellow cushions.
