Furnishing small apartments – examples and practical furnishing tips

Small apartments have a special charm that is achieved through proper planning, space-saving design and a little creativity. Sometimes one-room apartments even look cozier than large apartments that have many separate rooms. However, if you have to furnish small apartments, you should try to get the most out of the small space available. In this article we would like to show you the interior design of four small apartments that, although they have an area of less than 50 square meters, are functional and cleverly furnished.

This one-room apartment has a floor area of only 20 square meters, which is furnished in an optimal way to satisfy the needs of a young couple. Designers Piotr Matuszek and Gosia Czarny have transformed the small space into a cozy apartment that impresses with its space-saving design. To make the small space look larger, the designers chose light colors for the furnishings and clear lines with simple geometric patterns for the wall design. The glossy white wall panels and kitchen fronts reflect daylight and create an elegant, bright interior.

The furniture selected ismodern and functional at the same time. The wall bed, which remains hidden behind the wall panels during the day and can be folded down into a cozy double bed in the evening, makes a special impression. The bathroom follows the color scheme of the living room, but is complemented by a wider pattern and an orange color accent.

Solo Design Studio were asked to furnish a one-room apartment, where the owners wanted clearly defined living areas. The designers managed to create a sleeping area, a kitchen and a living room in an area of 40 square meters. They used different accents for each area to visually define the demarcation. Light tones and a turquoise color accent were selected for the sleeping area, which is also separated from the rest of the apartment by a dark curtain. The pendant lights and indirect lighting provide more cosiness and a relaxed atmosphere in this separate area.

As a rule, you should limit the furnishings to simple and space-saving furniture that does not take up too much space in the room. For this apartment, the designers opted for simple yet modern furnishings that fit perfectly into the room. While the color scheme in the living room and bedroom includes lighter tones, darker colors are used in the kitchen and dining area, providing contrast in the interior. The gray walls and the stone-look room divider provide more aesthetics.

This apartment is designed in an eclectic furnishing style, which usually combines different styles in a balanced and sophisticated way. The Ukrainian architect Nastya Antonyuk managed to separate the different areas in the one-room apartment from each other. The different colors in the interior designate the individual living areas and are complemented by upbeat accents in fun colors such as green, yellow and blue. The facility presents a combination of antique and modern furniture, diverse textures and industrial lighting. The kitchen is designed in a niche and creates a vintage flair.

In the middle of the room there is a matt room divider that includes several important functions in one. On the one hand, the entertainment options such as the television and a built-in bookshelf are located on the outer part, and on the other hand, the small bathroom is hidden behind the black wall. Furthermore, all wall niches are furnished in an optimal way and each fulfill a useful function in the interior. In the sleeping area, round shapes are used as a decorative accent, which combine perfectly with the minimalist cabinet doors and drawers.

Designer Michael Temnikov decorated this loft apartment in a minimalist style using simple geometric shapes and inexpensive materials. Concrete, wood and wire are tastefully combined to create a modern interior with a bit of industrial flair. The sleeping area is designed to save space in a wall niche and is separated from the rest of the apartment by a curtain.

If you want to furnish small apartments where there is not enough space for decoration, you can consider creative wall design. This loft apartment is designed with a vertical garden in the living area, which brings some greenery to the otherwise monochrome interior.
