However, unlike store-bought chips, this recipe uses no sugar and the chips are baked rather than fried. This is healthy snacking in its purest form!

Ingredients:

  • 3 large, sweet, crunchy apples
  • 3/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Preparation:

  • Preheat the oven to 100 degrees in the upper and lower thirds of the oven and line two baking trays with baking paper.
  • Wash the fruit. Core it using an apple corer (you can skip this step if you don't mind a few seeds in the chips). Using a vegetable slicer (recommended) or a very sharp knife, cut the apples horizontally into thin slices.
  • Place the apple slices in a single layer on the prepared baking sheets. Sprinkle them with cinnamon andbake themin the upper and lower thirds of the oven for 1 hour. Remove the baking sheets and place them on the top and bottom racks.
  • Bake the fruit for another 1 to 1 1/2 hours, until a single apple chip removed from the oven is crisp at room temperature, 2 to 3 minutes (to test the apple chips, remove a single apple slice, but leave the others continue baking). When you're happy with the crispiness (the total time depends on the thickness of the slice and the type of apple), turn the oven off and leave the apples in the oven for another hour while it cools to further crisp them.
