Carnival recipes – donuts as classics
The carnival donuts are a symbol of the German carnival festivaland therefore should not be missing. They consist of an airy yeast dough that is filled with any jam and sprinkled with powdered sugar. Sugar icing is also a common glaze that you can color as you wish to create particularly cheerful donuts. Here is a simple carnival donut recipe:
– 500 g Flour
– 40 g yeast
– 60 ml cold milk
– 60 ml hot water
– 3 egg yolks
– 2 whole eggs
– 60g sugar
– 1 packet of vanilla sugar
– 1 squeeze of lemon
– 1 pinch of salt
– 1 shot of rum
– 60 g Butter
– Fat for frying
From this idea you will get 10 donuts. Sift the flour into a bowl. Form a well into which you will then add the milk and water, having previously mixed them together and dissolved the yeast in them. Then knead a dough out of it. Sprinkle it with a little flour and let it rest, covered, in a warm place for 30 minutes. In the meantime, stir the butter until fluffy. Then mix the egg yolks, eggs, sugar, vanilla sugar, lemon, salt and rum together and add to the butter. Add this mixture and the flour to the first dough, knead everything together well and let it rest covered again, but only for 20 minutes.
Then form donuts, or Berliners, from the finished dough by forming balls and flattening them slightly. Spread them on a baking tray, cover them with a cloth and let them rest again for 20 minutes. Heat fat to 170 degrees. Place the donuts in the hot oil (let the top float in the oil first), cover the pot with a lid and wait 3 minutes. Flip the donuts and bake uncovered for another 3 minutes. Then remove the donuts and let them drain and cool. Then fill them with any jam or pudding. It is best to use a kitchen syringe. Finally, the donuts are sprinkled with sugar or powdered sugar or decorated with any glaze.
Of course, you can design the donuts however you like to make them look even funnier. For this purpose you can use other candies like these gummy goods. Funny motifs and faces can also be created with toppings.

The so-called Fasnachtschüechli are also a great snack that is reminiscent of chips but is sweet. That's why we definitely have to mention them in our list of carnival recipes. Only a few products are necessary to prepare it, which you usually already have in the house. Baking takes place again in hot fat, as is the case with Berliners. The wavy shape of the pastry is particularly interesting and looks very decorative on the dessert table.

To do this, you can place the dough circles on a cloth and shape them using the cloth, then let the pastry dry. Bake for 2 to 3 minutes in 170 degrees hot fat. Turn once in between. Drain the carnival pastries and sprinkle with powdered sugar when cool.

If you are looking for treats for kindergarten, you can also choose and prepare chocolate cornflakes. This is a quick recipe that even beginners can easily prepare. First melt the chocolate in a water bath and then add the coconut oil and vanilla sugar. Let this mixture cool down a bit. In the meantime, prepare a baking tray to line with baking paper. Then fold the cornflakes into the chocolate mixture until they are all well coated with chocolate. Then form small piles on the baking paper. Place the baking sheet in the refrigerator where the chocolate will harden.

Try something different and use this recipe for sweet pretzels. First mix the flour with the yeast and then add the egg, sugar, salt, nutmeg, lemon and milk. Knead a smooth dough and then leave it covered in a warm place to rest for half an hour. Then knead it again and form rolls about 10 cm long and about 1.5 cm thick. You then form the pretzels from these rolls. The pretzels are then baked in frying oil or other fat at 180 degrees. Then let them drain, cool and sprinkle with sugar and glaze if desired.

Knead a smooth dough from all the ingredients except the butter and wrap it in foil. Chill in the refrigerator for 20 minutes. Roll out the dough thinly on a little flour and cut out small squares (approx. 5 cm large). Add three cuts in the middle of each, but do not cut through to the edge. Then melt the butter and bake the squares in it at 165 degrees until golden brown. Drain on kitchen roll and dust with powdered sugar.
Cameroonianswithcurd dough
Cameroonians are basically donuts, but they have a different shape and are not filled. This also gives them a different taste. You can either use any carnival donut recipes for the dough or prepare a quark dough. We have a recipe for the second variant for you, with which you can prepare around 30 Cameroonians. For this you need the following ingredients:

– 260g sugar
– 260 g Butter
– 2 large and one small egg (130 g)

– 26 g Backpulver

For this variant, mix the baking powder and flour. Add all other ingredients and knead into a dough at low speed. Cover the bowl with the dough and let it rest in a cool place for 30 minutes. Then roll out the dough to a thickness of 2 cm and divide it into 30 squares. Then create tie shapes and other arbitrary shapes (e.g. knot shape) and bake the Cameroonians like donuts in hot fat.
