Surprise your loved ones on a special occasion with an equally special cake that is homemade. Actually it's too good to eat - or is it?
Fault Line Cake Instructions
To design such a cake, you will of course first need a cake. You can use your choice of base recipes for the Fault Line Cake. The cake itself, in turn, can be of any shape. Both round models and square ones are ideal. It is best to place the cake on a rotating cake stand, as this makes it easier to work with. But if necessary you can do it without it. You should prepare the cake for designing by covering it with a thin layerSpread buttercream. The purpose of this is to ensure that no crumbs get into the main layer later. So the cake is sealed, so to speak. You also need:
- Buttercream
- Food colors – in the first example only one color was chosen (pink), but combinations are possible as desired. In the other instructions, the line again consists of simple Nutella.
- Decorations (sprinkles, edible beads, cookie crumbs and pieces, frosting to create flowerswith a piping bag, motifs made of fondant, edible glitter or whatever else your heart desires)
- Glasur Smoother
- angled spatula
- edible gold paint or edible gold leaf
- small brush
If you have prepared the cake with the thin layer of buttercream, you can create the line at any point using a thicker layer of buttercream (or with Nutella as in the example below). It is usually done in the middle. This layer should be thick enough to hold the selected decorations (for example, it does not need to be thick for sprinkles, otherwise they will sink). Apply the buttercream roughly and then smooth it out. Then add the chosen decoration. Simply press them carefully into the cream.

Now apply the buttercream to the rest of the cake. This cream can also be in a different color if you want the line to stand out even more. Start on the surface of the cake and then work your way up to the line. It is important that the buttercream layer is thick enough. Exactly how thick dependsfrom the decorationthat you have chosen. Apply this cream also below the line. Along the line, the buttercream can overlap it here and there. So you don't want to create a perfect edge. Then smooth the cream first on the sides and then on the surface. You should be careful not to touch the sprinkles (or other decorations).
Then let the cream set for 20 minutes. Then you can brush the edges with gold edible paint or other materials. Complete!

Alternative Variante
You can also simply bake three layers, with two of them being the same size and the third being slightly smaller. Then use the smaller one for the line by covering its edge with buttercream and decorating it. Then place it in the middle of one larger base and the other larger one above it. Then you can also paint the edges of the other floors as described above.
Cut fault line cake correctly
Even if this explanation seems strange or even unnecessary at first, it is nevertheless justified. The fault line cake is usually very high so that the line can stand out better. The classic cutting from top to bottom is not a good idea because the tall piece would fall apart. Instead, you can simply cut the cake in half or all the way to the line. However, if you have onesmall cakehave made, cut them as usual.
