How to properly prepare fish in the hot air fryer

Which fish is best for the air fryer?

White fish is best because its flesh is firm and doesn't break apart. Tilapia, for example, is a popular white fish. Very delicate and flat white fish such as sole could break apart too easily. You can even use salmon if you like a richer flavor. Halibut or cod are also good choices and not too expensive either.

How long should you fry fish in the air fryer?

Cooking time depends on your air fryer model and the size and thickness of the fillets. Basically, fish needs about 8 - 10 minutes at a temperature of 180 - 200 degrees. If the fish pieces are thicker, you will need to adjust the time accordingly.

Frozen fish in the air fryer?

No fresh fish? No problem! Frozen fish in the air fryer also works well. If using frozen fish fillets, thaw them first. Depending on the size, let the frozen fish soak in cold water for about an hour and then pat it dry before continuing to prepare it.

Frozen fish fingers, on the other hand, can be put directly into the hot air fryer and prepared according to the heat-and-eat principle. These are pre-cooked and only need to be fried to get the breading crispy. When thawed it would soften and fall off. Simply preheat your air fryer to 180°C to 200°C (check your model's instruction manual), spray the basket with non-stick spray, add the frozen fish sticks, and close the fryer to begin cooking to start. Fry the fish fingers for about 10 minutes (or until crispy), turning them halfway through cooking.

How to Use Perforated Steam Paper for Air Fryer

No sticking and easy cleaning - that's what makes the perforated dam paper so fantastic. It makes cooking tender fish so much easier without it sticking or tearing. These baking paper sheets are perforated, allowing air to circulate and allowing for more even cooking. They are super easy to use. There are many different sizes, so make sure you buy one that will fit in your fryer basket!

Breaded fish from the air fryer

These breaded fish fillets from the air fryer are super quick to make and absolutely delicious. The core of this healthy air fryer recipe is white fish such as tilapia or cod. You just need to prepare a simple breading of egg, breadcrumbs and spices.

Preparation time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 14 minutes
Total time: 24 minutes

Ingredients for 3 servings:
450 g fish fillets, fresh or if frozen, thawed
Oil spray
1 teaspoon coarse salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika powder
100 g breadcrumbs (Panko)
1 egg or more if necessary

preparation:
If the fillets are large, halve them or cut into the desired size. Make sure they are the same size so they cook evenly. The thicker they are, the longer the cooking time. If using frozen fish, thaw it completely.

Pat the fillets dry and then spray lightly with oil spray. Season with salt, black pepper, garlic powder and paprika.

Place the breading in a shallow bowl. In another bowl, whisk the egg.

Dip a fillet in the egg, allowing the excess to drip off. Place the breaded fillet in the breadcrumbs and then sprinkle more breadcrumbs on the fillet. Gently press the breadcrumbs into the fillets so they stick to the fish. Repeat this process for all pieces of fish.

Notice: Be careful when dipping the fish in the egg and breading. This will ensure that the breading does not come off the fish before frying it.

Place a perforated steamer paper (optional but highly recommended) in the air fryer basket and lightly spray with oil spray.

Place the coated fish on the parchment paper in a single layer. Generously spray all sides of the breaded fillets with oil spray to crisp them up.

Fry for a total of 8-14 minutes (depending on the size and thickness of the fillets) at 200°C. Turn the fillets after 6 minutes. Spray dry spots lightly and continue cooking remaining time until crispy brown and fish is cooked through.

Serve the fish with a salad, in tacos,Tortillas, in a sandwich or as a snack. It's a great way to get kids to eat fish. Simply add a variety of dips to these crispy fish fillets (kids love dips!) and you have a quick and easy dinner for the whole family. Whether it's remoulade sauce or aioli, the options are countless.
