How does the 3-ingredient yogurt cake taste?
This yogurt cake looks like thatBasque cheesecake without a basevery similar but the texture is not the same. The consistency is similar to vanilla pudding, but firmer. It is both creamy and firm and a little chewy around the edges. So a real culinary delight!
Since this recipe is low in sugar, the cake is not very sweet. It tastes slightly sweet and spicy due to the yoghurt. You can definitely add a little sugar to the cake if you like it sweeter, but keep in mind that it will no longer be low in calories and sugar. And now for the recipe!
Recipe and preparation
Ingredients:
- 375 g Vanillejoghurt
- 4 eggs, size L
- 5 tbsp cornstarch
Preheat the oven to 180°C fan. Spray the inside of a 15cm round springform pan with cooking spray and then line it with baking paper so that the inside of the pan is completely covered and some of the paper extends over the pan. The baking paper must stick to the inner edges.
Place the yogurt in a large bowl. If using sugar, add it now and stir to combine. Add the eggs, one at a time, whisking after each addition until the egg is completely mixed into the yogurt. At the end you should have a nice, smooth dough.
Sift the cornstarch into the dough. Stir the cornstarch into the dough with a whisk until there are no lumps left.
Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan. Bake for about 1 hour or until the top of the cake is no longer moist and the top looks browned.
Let the cake cool at room temperature for about 30 minutes, then refrigerate for at least 2 hours before serving. Remove the cake from the refrigerator about 15 minutes before serving to allow it to return to room temperature, which will make it less dense and creamier.
Juicy Turkish-style yogurt cake
Turkish desserts are always so juicy and heavenly delicious. The secret is in the syrup. Soaked cakes are significantly sweeter, but are a real treat for anyone with a sweet tooth. And the best thing is that you can easily prepare a Turkish yogurt cake at home. You can find the recipe below.
Ingredients:
- 3 eggs, size M
- 200g sugar
- 250 g Yoghurt
- 80 ml vegetable oil
- 10 g Backpulver
- 10 g vanilla sugar
- 300 g Flour
For the sugar syrup:
- The zest of 1/2 lemon
- 600g sugar
- 750 ml water
- 1 lemon slice
Beat the eggs and sugar until fluffy. Then stir in the yogurt and oil with the whisk. Add the flour, baking powder and vanilla sugar and slowly work them into the wet mixture.
Pour the dough into a greased 24 x 24 cm baking pan. Bake the yogurt cake in a preheated oven at 190°C until the surface is golden brown. Allow the cake to cool completely.
Meanwhile, prepare the sugar syrup by combining the sugar, water and lemon wedge in a saucepan and cooking over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the sugar is completely dissolved. Allow the syrup to boil for 5 minutes before removing from the heat and allowing to cool for 3-4 minutes.
Once the cake has cooled completely, pour the hot syrup over it and let the yogurt cake rest for 15-20 minutes. Then you can cut the cake and serve.
This recipe is a variation of the classic Turkish dessert Revani. When making Revani, yogurt is also on the list of ingredients, but the cake is made with semolina instead of flour. Both the Turkish yogurt cake and the classic semolina cake are soaked in syrup and therefore taste wonderful as a complement to black coffee or tea.
