Which type of pumpkin is suitable for pumpkin jam?
Before you try our pumpkin jam recipe, you may be wondering which type of pumpkin is best for it? As a rule, you can use any variety that is edible, depending on your taste. However, our favorite are Hokkaido or butternut squash, as they have a non-fibrous and very compact flesh and are much easier to process. Very important - to avoid leftover peel, we would recommend that you peel the pumpkin for our pumpkin jam recipe. Stored in a cool, dark place, pumpkin jam will last for around 3-4 months. However, it is very important that the jars are properly clean and sterilized.

Ingredients
- 1kg pumpkin
- 500 grams of preserving sugar 2:1
- 100 ml apple juice
- 1 Zimtstange
- 2 cloves
- Some fresh ginger (optional, but recommended)
- A pinch of ground nutmeg
- 1 teaspoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
- A pinch of salt
preparation
- Peel the pumpkin, remove the seeds and cut the flesh into large pieces.
- Place pumpkin pieces in a large pot and pour lemon and apple juice over them. Alternatively, you can prepare the pumpkin jam with orange juice.
- Add the cloves, cinnamon stick and ginger to the pot and bring everything to a boil over medium heat.
- Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 10-15 minutes until the pumpkin becomes soft. The cooking time may vary slightly depending on the variety.
- Remove the pot from the heat and remove the cloves, cinnamon stick and ginger.
- Puree the pumpkin finely with a hand blender or in a blender and put it back in the pot.
- Place the pot back on the stove and add the gelling sugar, nutmeg and salt.
- Let the mixture boil for about 3-4 minutes until everything gels well.
- Finally, pour the still hot pumpkin jam into sterilized jars and close tightly.
- Let it cool completely upside down and voilà – our pumpkin jam recipe is so easy!

Pumpkin jam from the Thermomix
Pumpkin jam can be prepared even easier and faster in the Thermomix. And here comes the recipe for itautumn spread.
Ingredients
- 700 grams of pumpkin
- 250 ml apple or orange juice
- 2 apples
- 500 grams of preserving sugar 2:1
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- A pinch of cloves
preparation
- Peel the pumpkin and cut it into small pieces.
- Place the pumpkin pieces in the mixing bowl and steam for 12 minutes/speed setting 1.
- Peel the apples, core them, cut them into pieces and put them in the mixing bowl.
- Add the juice and spices to the mixing bowl and cook for 12 minutes at 100 degrees/level 1.
- Allow the mixture to cool for 2-3 minutes and then puree finely for 30 seconds/speed setting 6.
- Add the preserving sugar through the opening in the lid and mix well on level 3.
- Let everything cook for 5 minutes/100 degrees/speed 1 and do a small gelling test.
- Pour the still hot pumpkin jam into clean jars, close immediately and turn upside down for 15 minutes.
- To make the pumpkin jam Christmassy, you can use a little more cinnamon and cloves.

Apple and pumpkin jam recipe
And here comes the ultimate fall jam that you are guaranteed to love! Our pumpkin jam with apple is even more delicious and aromatic and it is super easy to prepare.
Ingredients
- 900 grams of pumpkin
- 3 apples
- 150 ml freshly squeezed orange juice
- The juice of 1 lemon
- 500 grams of preserving sugar 2:1
- A pinch of cinnamon
- A pinch of ground ginger
preparation
- First peel the pumpkin, remove the seeds and fibers and cut into small pieces.
- Wash apples in the same way, core them and cut them into small pieces.
- Place pumpkin and apple pieces in a large pot with orange and lemon juice and spices.
- Bring the mixture to a boil over medium heat and cook for 18-20 minutes, until the squash and apples are soft.
- Then puree everything finely with a hand blender or in a blender and put it back in the pot.
- Add preserving sugar and let everything simmer for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Pour the hot jam into clean jars, close tightly and turn upside down for about 15 minutes.
- And your pumpkin jam with apples is ready to enjoy!
