Whether for furniture, as floor coverings or as rustic decoration: wood is used extensively in the interior. The natural material is modern and comfortable at the same time, creates a charming ambience and is easy to care for. If you want to furnish your home comfortably, you should choose wood. With this in mind, the FMD architects from Australia designed a couple's new home. The building is located in the suburbs of Melbourne, Australia and was completed in 2018. The clients wanted to transform their house into a comfortable, functional and stylish refuge from the hustle and bustle of the big city. We present you the excellent end result and explain how you can implement the room solutions and decoration ideas in your own home.
Furnish the living room comfortably: furniture, home accessories and plants
On the ground floor of the single-family home is the spacious living area, which houses the kitchen, dining area and living room. Tall floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors connect indoor and outdoor spaces, allowing a seamless transition from the kitchen to the adjacent dining areawith outdoor grill. To make the large living room appear bright and inviting, the architects integrated skylights.
Custom-made wooden furniture tone-on-tone with the floor covering and window frames form the modern living program. From the numerous built-in cupboards, to the cozy desk in a niche, to the dining area for eight people and the kitchen island with a mirror surface: the furniture is tastefully combined with each other and fits harmoniously into the living space.
The absolute highlight in the living room is an accent wall that is completely covered in wood. It offers numerous design options and can always be presented in a new way. Whether as a modern wall unit or as a hanging surface for paintings and posters: the wooden wall is a real eye-catcher. Together with the sofa in anthracite and the wing chair in neon green, it forms a cozy reading corner that invites you to linger on sunny summer weekends.
Kitchen, dining area and comfortable lounge area
DieKitchen is the heart of every home. Even if living space is limited, there is the option of creating a comfortable cooking area with built-in cupboards and modern storage concepts. The wooden fronts make the kitchen look homely and are the perfect choice for anyone for whom the minimalist white kitchen seems too sterile and cool. Incidentally, the architects specifically avoided using upper cabinets. This makes the kitchen appear visually more spacious. So that the kitchen island does not look too massive in the limited space, it was also covered with mirrors. The extractor hood with a mirror surface adds the final touch to the modern, purist concept.
A casual dining area was designed right next to the fitted kitchen with cooking island. The dining table with cross legs offers seating for eight people. The smooth and polished wooden top offers enough storage space for small home accessories, flower pots and statues. The woven seats of the chairs form an attractive contrast to the otherwise rather modern look of the dining furniture set. A white chest of drawers with handleless cupboard doors offers additional storage space for dishes and drinks.
TheOutdoor dining areapromises many casual hours outdoors. The homeowners can end the evening with a barbecue with friends or relax during the day under the cooling shade of the roof. The protruding building volume with the sleeping area also shields the terrace from prying eyes and protects it from wind.Numerous plant potswith exotic and native ground covers, perennials and shrubs bring nature into the house and onto the terrace. The container garden is perfect for the allotment.
The bedroom in a puristic living style
While the living room has a modern country house style, the bedrooms have a purist design. The architects concentrated on the essentials when setting up. A bed, a functional desk by the window and a small chest of drawers complete the living space. Decoration was omitted; instead, textiles bring variety to the interior. From the wool duvets to the linen throw pillows to the curtains and the carpet: the small bedroom is an oasis of peace and serenity.
The numerous windows allow plenty of sunlight into all rooms and create an exciting play of light and shadow. The sunlight enhances the natural beauty of the wooden wall and the solid floorboards.
No house is complete without an inviting hallway. If you want to furnish your entrance area comfortably, you should choose wooden floors and furniture. They create a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. At the same time, a wardrobe and a shoe cabinet offer sufficient storage space for shoes and coats. The absolute highlight in the hallway is the long chest of drawers, which offers enough space for home accessories and plants. Large windows also allow plenty of sunlight into the hallway.
The comfortable furniture, the numerous storage options, the casual living area and the puristic bedrooms: the house by FMD Architects scores with functional furnishings and clever room solutions.
