Lightning-quick puff pastry starter for Christmas, filled with Camembert and fruit

For a little hunger in between, as finger food or as an appetizer before dinner, it doesn't matter - hardly anyone will be able to resist this delicious snack. It couldn't be easier and you can combine the soft cheese with a variety of fruits. Seasonal fruits, such as pears, are particularly recommended for the puff pastry starter at Christmas. But you can also use frozen fruits if necessary.

Camembert in puff pastry with pear

For 4 servings:

  • 500g puff pastry
  • 250 g pear
  • 150 g Camembert
  • 1 tsp Herbs de Provence
  • ½ tsp ground black pepper
  • egg yolk

This is how quickly and easily you can prepare the quick appetizer with puff pastry:

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees. Line a baking tray with baking paper.

  • Cut the pear into pieces. You can peel them beforehand if you want.
  • Also cut the Camembert into small pieces.
  • Roll out the puff pastry.
  • Cut it into 8 squares.
  • Place in the middle of each piecePear pieces and cheese. Don't overdo it so you can still seal the dough.
  • Season with the spices.
  • Gather the free edges of the dough to create small pouches. Press the dough together, it should stick together well enough. If not, you can also use roasting twine. Then don't pull the string too tight, just enough so that the dough maintains its shape.
  • Now brush the outside of the bag with the beaten egg yolk. This means the dough doesn't get so dry and it gets a nice color.
  • Bake the bites until golden brown, about 20 minutes.

Christmas puff pastry starter with Camembert and lingonberries or cranberries

If you want to work with the berries, we recommend using jam or sauce directly. Then proceed as follows:

  • 500g puff pastry
  • Cranberry sauce or cranberry jam
  • 150 g Camembert
  • 1 TL Rosmarin
  • Salt
  • egg yolk

Preheat the oven to 170 degrees. Line a baking tray with baking paper.

  • Roll out the puff pastry again and cut it into squares.
  • Place a dollop of cranberry sauce or cranberry jam in the middle of each dough.
  • Cut the cheese into small pieces and distribute them on the dough squares.
  • Sprinkle some rosemary and salt over the cheese pieces.
  • Gather the dough around the sides as described above. If necessary, tie it additionally.
  • Distribute the resulting sachets on the tray.
  • Brush them with beaten egg yolk.
  • Bake the Camembert in the puff pastry until golden brown, about 25 minutes.
