Tomato salad with onions: The classic recipe from grandma's time

The classic recipe for tomato salad simply belongs on the table in summer. Of course, sun-ripened tomatoes from your own cultivation taste best, but you can also choose a variety of red tomatoes from the supermarket. The salad is super easy to prepare and can be ready in less than 10 minutes. Perfect if you are organizing a last minute party or have a sudden visitor. Grandma's classic is ideal for casual summer evenings where you don't like spending time in the kitchen. On bruschetta, as a side dish to grilled food or simply as a light starter: the salad is always well received and can be varied as desired.

That's why the basic recipe comes first and we then vary it with different ingredients.

Ingredients for the basic recipe:

  • 0.5kg red tomatoes
  • 1/3 bunch of parsley
  • 1 large white onion
  • 2-4 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 3 THE BASAMICO
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:

1. Place the dressing ingredients in a bowl and mix together.

2. Clean, wash and dice or slice tomatoes. Roughly chop or dice the onion and add to the tomatoes.

3. Drizzle the salad with the dressing and chill for 10 minutes. Remove from the refrigerator shortly before serving.

Even if the classic tastes wonderfully like summer, sometimes we want to try something new. Luckily, you can vary the salad by adding ingredients. With cheese, new spices or simply with a sweet dressing, the tomato salad gets an update.

Tomato salad with onions and burrata, Italian style

Sun-ripened tomatoes, creamy burrata and lots of herbs from your own garden: the next summer salad is a culinary journey to Italy, where fresh ingredients are always available in the countryside. For optimal taste, choose an aromatic tomato variety, cherry tomatoes “Black Cherry” are best. The tomatoes are marinated first and then served.

Ingredients:

  • 0.5 kg red aromatic cherry tomatoes
  • 1/3 bunch of parsley, chopped finely
  • 2 tsp basil, chopped finely
  • 1 large white onion, chopped
  • 2-4 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tsp red wine vinegar
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 150 g burrata (one ball)

Preparation:

1. Place the tomatoes in a large bowl, mix the onion, basil and parsley, salt, season with pepper and drizzle with olive oil and red wine vinegar. Mix the whole thing well, chill and let it marinate for at least 30 minutes (preferably 2-3 hours). Remove from the fridge, garnish with burrata and serve with garlic bruschetta.

Creamy tomato salad with sour cream

The next salad is ideal for barbecue parties or family lunches. Tomatoes with creamy sour cream dressing are super easy to prepare and can be mixed with cucumbers as desired.

Ingredients:

  • 0.5 kg Roma-Tomaten rotate
  • 1 medium cucumber
  • 1/3 bunch parsley, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp dill, chopped
  • 1 large red onion
  • 1 tsp olive oil
  • 250 g sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice, freshly squeezed
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:

Wash and dice the cucumber and tomatoes. Place the vegetables in a large bowl, garnish with chopped onion and season with parsley and dill. Mix the ingredients for the dressing - olive oil, sour cream and lemon oil separately in a measuring cup and drizzle over the vegetables. Salt, season with pepper and serve.

Light salad with tuna fish

Whether for a picnic, as a light lunch at the office or as an appetizer for a family celebration on the weekend: the next salad is the perfect addition to your summer menu.

The ingredients:

  • 0.5 kg red aromatic cherry tomatoes, halved
  • 1 celery stick, cleaned and chopped
  • 240 g (drained weight) canned tuna
  • 150 – 200 g cucumber (optional)
  • 1/3 bunch parsley, chopped
  • 1/4 bunch basil, chopped
  • 1 large white onion, chopped
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 3 tsp red wine vinegar
  • 1 pinch of chili flakes (optional)
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Preparation:

Wash, clean and chop tomatoes, celery and onions. Wash the cucumber, dice it and add it to the remaining vegetables. Drain the tuna fish. Pour the ingredients for the dressing into a measuring cup, mix well and season the salad with it. Season with parsley and basil, salt and pepper to taste.

Perfect salad for steak: tomatoes with honey dressing

The last recipe has a spicy touch and is the perfect accompaniment to grilled food and steak. The honey dressing makes us dream of a vacation in Mexico or South America and makes the salad a real culinary delight.

Ingredients:

  • 0.5kg red tomatoes
  • 1/3 bunch of parsley
  • 1 sweet onion (not hot type of onion)
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 TL Honig
  • 1 TL Dijon Mustard
  • 3 tbsp white wine vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp sea salt
  • 2 cloves of garlic, pressed

Preparation:

Cut the tomatoes and onions into slices, mix the ingredients for the dressing and the herbs in a bowl and drizzle them over the salad. Chill for 20 minutes and serve chilled.
