A study found that interest in smart homes among consumers in Germany is continuously increasing. The majority of Germans support a smart home. Of those surveyed, 21 percent said that smart home applications were very interesting, while 39 percent found modern technology interesting and only 16 percent said automation was less interesting to them. In the survey, 92 percent of participants said that medical assistance systems were a useful application, and 68 percent saw opportunities for remote-controlled safety technology. For 59 percent, remote-controlled heating makes sense, while 52 percent find remote-controlled shutters and windows interesting. Remotely controllable lighting is a possible use case for 46 percent of those surveyed. 21 percent are convinced of the advantages of automated control of household appliances.

The additional convenience is the focus for 32 percent of those surveyed, while 24 percent expressed themselves positively about the ease of use of the technology. 48 percent of participants are already saving energy, and 22 percent describe the applications as reliable. 13 percent of survey participants reported that the benefits of modern technology justify the costs. 12 percent of those surveyed always want to stay up to date with the latest technology. The first wired variants emerged in the 1970s. Today, the intelligent home represents the latest generation of home automation.
