If you want to display individually designed clothing or simply spice up old clothes or fabrics, you can consider the so -called batik. There are different batik techniques with which you can color fabric and thus design unique patterns and motifs. We have also put together some ideas in this article. Create unique textiles by binding, folding, diving and with the help of wax!
Materials and preparation
No matter what batik techniques you use, you need tie dye colors, i.e. textile colors, which you can dissolve in 60 degrees of hot water. Mix 4 liters of boiling and 2 liters of cold water and add the desired amount of batik color. The more color, the darker the color becomes. Do not forget work clothes, documents and gloves!
Select sample
If you now want to color the clothes yourself, you can choose the classic variant for tying to design circles. Above you can see a great scheme with four batik techniques for tying the fabric with cord and which pattern is the result. The fastest and simplest is the circular shape that you can design in any colors.
Tips for coloring
If you have bound the selected fabric according to any batik techniques, you can immerse it in the color and let it work for 1 hour. In the case of multicolored variants, however, the fabric is only partially dipped into the color or colored with a brush or sponge at the respective places. Then rinse the fabric tied together in the sink until the water remains clear. You can finally edit the color with a fixer so that it does not fade when washing.
Batik techniques in detail
If you want to make a batik shirt yourself, you can choose any pattern. The various batik techniques that we have put together are suitable for this, as well as one of the many others that still exist. But you are also welcome to experiment and come up with something. You can see how you can design several circles by tying.
The center of the circle does not necessarily have to be in the middle of the shirt or fabric. At the top you can see, for example, a variant in which the center was moved and is more in the direction of a corner. In this way you can also combine several circles on one fabric. If you are still a beginner, you can also take an old cloth to experiment.
Instructions for spiral form
If you would rather design a batik T-shirt instead of the common circle form that has a spiral motif, then use the batik techniques in which the shirt is screwed in and then bound. Use a fork as aid. Then tie the fabric together as shown in a flower. First color one side and then the other.
There are many T-shirt batik techniques. If you want to design such a rainbow pattern with a spiral shape, tie the shirt together as shown. Now color the individual segments that arise (in this case we simply call them petals due to the flower shape) in the chosen colors and let the color work. Then rinse again and hang up to dry.
Strip technology
You can make a strip of batik yourself in the same way how simple circles are made. However, they do not start with binding in the middle of the garment or fabric, but tie it together from top to bottom at regular intervals. In principle, stripes are even easier to make.
Then put the fabric back in the color. The longer the fabric stays in the color, the stronger it becomes, because the fabric has more time to absorb the color. This applies to all batik techniques and especially in diving technology, which we later come to, this is illustrated. If you would like to venture into more complicated variants and patterns, try the following:
Japanese Shibori technology - instructions
The so -calledShiboriis also a batik technique that comes from Japan and is characterized by more complicated tying. Nevertheless, we start with a simple variant. If you want to do this batik technology yourself, you need a PVC pipe to wrap the fabric and then yarn at any distance.
Unusual batik patterns for textiles
Although this scale pattern looks quite complicated, it is made easier than you might think. You can combine any colors again, but two are at least necessary. Also provide yarn for the Shibori Batik techniques and take enough time for binding, because in some cases this can take a little longer than with classic batik.
Tie textiles and dye in the scale pattern
Design dandruff as in the instructions. A wave shape is bound, so to speak. However, this is not the only thing that needs to be considered. The areas where you apply the two colors are also important. And in the middle there is a color and on the outer edges the other on the fabric. It was colored with a sponge.
Tie dye variants to tie
The fabrics are bound to the so -called tie dye. In some cases, the fabrics are also folded to create original patterns. One example is the cloth above. As an alternative to the cord, clamps can also be used, which in turn form interassing motifs on the fabric if they are not separated from the fabric by cardboard.
Batik technology with wrinkles
A combination of wrinkles and clamps was used for this pretty pillow cover. The fabric is spread and then folded in the middle. Then fold the upper edge in the middle down, turn the fabric and repeat this with the other side, so that a narrow strip is created from the width of the fabric, so to speak.
Then fold triangles from this strip, which you fix with slightly smaller cardboard triangles and clamps. Dye the fabric in two different colors as shown. If the fabric is washed out and dried, iron it and sew it from it, for example, a reference for pillows. But you can also design whole bed linen.
Original idea for tying
You can also get a very nice pattern with this variant for Shibori. It depends entirely on the binding technology that you can pursue in the instructions. The effort is really worth it, don't you find it? You can also sew for batik technology instead of binding. However, this also takes more time.
Wax batics for beautiful motifs
The batik technology with wax is no less impressive and is at least as much fun as all the other batik techniques. The advantage of this variant is that you can not only design beautiful patterns, but also any motifs, which makes the garment or cloth even more special. How about such a flower?
As you can imagine, a candle is needed for the batik techniques with wax. With this technique, a distinction is made between two variants, which can also be combined without any problems, for which different candles are used. You need a thin candle for drip technique. A table candle, for example, is very suitable.
The candle is now lit and as soon as the wax begins to melt, you can get started. For this variant of the wax batik techniques, they simply drop the wax on the desired areas. So you can set small accents or design whole motifs from points. It is recommended that you mark motifs and patterns thinly in advance with a pencil.
Alternatively or in combination, wax can also be painted wonderfully. It is best to use a tealight for this. Immerse yourself in the liquid wax and then paint the desired motif on the fabric. After rinsing and drying, you can remove the wax for the wax batik techniques. To do this, place the lion paper or kitchen paper on the wax points and iron it so that the wax is absorbed by the paper.
If you remove the wax, change the paper often so that the wax can also be well absorbed. How to continue working until there is really no wax on the fabric. With the wax batik techniques you can not only design patterns. Lettings can also be added, which is a great idea for homemade gifts.
Adhesive instead of wax
Instead of wax, liquid glue can also be used to design motifs and patterns. To design the motifs, stencils can also be used, which are a practical thing, especially for children. Immediately after coloring, the motifs will not be seen. Only when washing the glue is removed and the motifs come to light.
Diving technology for ombre effect
Now we want to come to the last variant, which is also very easy to imitate and is therefore also suitable for beginners. You can design pretty ombre effects by simply diving the fabric in any color. The idea is a little more time -consuming because you have to bring every color shade and layer to the fabric.
You can find out how exactly the batik techniques work for diving, for which a skirt with a suitable top was colored. You should color the water as dark as possible so that you can make the ombre effect from dark to light. The instructions for this can be found below:
You start with the area of clothing or the fabric you want to have the darkest. Only partially put the fabric in the color and let it work. As soon as you have received the desired nuances, dive into the water part of the fabric. However, they leave these in color for a shorter time. With the batik techniques for diving, you can design any number of nuances.
The color does not gradually go into the next shade to look beautiful. You can also use nuances of a color that represent a greater contrast to each other or even use very different colors. The procedure is the same again. The batik techniques for diving are carried out step by step.
All batik techniques are not only suitable for clothing, but can also be used to decorate the apartment. Hang, for example, on the bathroom and tea towels in the kitchen or design table and space cakes or fabric napkins with an individual pattern that makes every room look much more likeable.
And as already mentioned, you can use the batik techniques to make others happy. Give away homemade gifts that can also contain a personal message in the form of lettering at will. How about trimmers or such bibs for freshly baked mums? There is something interesting for everyone!
