Creatively decorate gloves for children

Gloves are in winterwithout question a great thing. They keep our hands nice and warm and, depending on the material, dry. However, many children have a different opinion. Some people find it difficult to get used to having something on their hands and therefore don't want to wear them. For this reason, children's gloves are usually offered in bright and cheerful colors and even with decorations. But how about designing them yourself? You don't have to be a professional seamstress to design a children's glove. We'll show you a few useful ideas and hacks on the topic of “gloves for children” that will help your little ones get through the winter. Also, learn how to protect the gloves from getting lost by attaching them to the jacket. And if a glove gets lost or broken, you can make great dolls out of the rest.

Martha Stuart impresses again with creative instructions, this time all about children's gloves. Transform the boring plain mittens intofunny animalsand you will see that the children will be much happier wearing them and will even be proud to present them to their friends. In the example you see a shark, but with a little imagination you can also make other animals. For a shark you need the following things:

  • blue gloves for children (preferably mittens)
  • blue felt
  • white rickrack
  • white embroidery thread
  • Nadel
  • white buttons

Sew the rickrack along the front seam of the mitten. This way you will get the teeth for the shark. Then sew on the white buttons for the eyes. Then add the nostrils with a few stitches. Now you need three fins made of blue felt: 2 identical side fins and a dorsal fin. You can search for templates online or draw and cut them out freehand. If you are doing them freehand, first cut out a model of each type of fin and then use that as a template for the others. It's best to make the fins for the other glove at the same time so that both gloves for children are the same (2 dorsal fins and 4 side fins).

Now sew these fins onto the back area of the mitten, with the dorsal fin in the middle and the other two on the side. Repeat these steps with the other glove as well. In a similar way, you can also make other animals, as already mentioned. How about, for example, a crocodile made of green gloves, onto which you sew a jagged element instead of fins for the crocodile shell? Or an elephant made of gray mittens with a trunk and large elephant ears?

Monster gloves for children

It's even easier to attach such motifs to gloves and mittens because you don't even have to sew (but you can if you find the characteristic seam on felt attractive). Think about itany monster. You can get really creative because there are no rules for the classic monster and you can design it however you want. Perfect for including the children in the DIY project.

  • Gloves for children or mittens
  • Felt in any color
  • Textile glue or needle and embroidery thread
  • scissors and pencil

Draw the individual elements of the monsteron the feltand cut them out. Then all you have to do is glue them to the back of the glove or sew them if you like. By the way, both gloves for children do not necessarily have to have the same motif. You can also choose different monsters, which will look even funnier. However, if you do make both of them the same, it is recommended to use the first elements as a template for the second ones so that the two monsters are actually identical.

Decorate fingertips

The fingertips of children's gloves can be designed really creatively. In the example you can see models with claws and those with flames on their fingertips (you can find one hereCostume idea with fire). Both models are made from felt. As you can see, for this purpose the fingertips were cut off and the respective elements were glued to the inside with textile glue. However, I'm sure you'll agree that this isn't a good idea for winter. For this reason, we recommend simply opening the seam in these places, adding the elements to the gloves inside out and then sewing the tips closed again inside out. The decorations are also sewn in and fixed better.

Turn the children's gloves into paws

It's even easier to turn children's gloves into paws like this. All you have to do is cut out circles (5 for each glove for the fingers) and an element in the shape of a cloud (or equally round). You then glue these elements to the underside of the gloves with textile glue. This way you can make paws in a wide variety of colors. Or how about making tiger paws out of orange gloves by adding some black tiger stripes to the top too?

Funny jellyfish

Are theseJellyfish not really funny? Cut out the elements from felt. You can use any colors for this. The tentacles can also be a little shorter so that they don't get in the way when wearing the gloves. The jellyfish body is located on the back of the hand and the tentacles point downward towards the fingers. Of course, you can also experiment with the direction and come up with something of your own.

Decorate nicely with pumpkins or diamonds

You can use a variety of things to decorate children's mittens and gloves. Glitter stones, beads and homemade figures (e.g. roses and other flowers) and felt motifs are just a few of the variations. However, small, choking parts are not suitable for gloves for a child up to 2 years old as they could be swallowed. Therefore, do not use small parts for gloves for small children. In the picture above you can see two creative ideas.

DiePumpkin ideais perfect for the fall season. The second will make many girls' hearts beat faster. Diamonds were made out of felt and then distributed on the glove. You can use any type of motifs to design and easily adjust them to the children's glove size.

Planets for boys and girls

You can see which elements you need to cut out for a Saturn in the instructions above. Of course you can also add other planets. The idea is great for all children who are interested in the universe. If the planets are for girls' gloves, you can of course decorate them with glitter or add rhinestones for stars. If your child is enthusiastic about planets, that would bea space partybut perfect for the next birthday!

Attach children's gloves to jacket

Of course, now that you've been so creative and hardworking, it would be a shame if your children lost these pieces of jewelry. However, this is quite common with little ones. You can avoid this by simply attaching the children's gloves to the jacket. A piece of string is all you need for this purpose. You can sew the cord to the openings of the gloves. Then put the gloves through the jacket sleeves and they are secured.

An even simpler variant is special straps with clips, which are also pulled through the sleeves. The mittens or gloves are then attached to the clamps.

Reuse a broken glove

You can use gloves for children that no longer fit, but also those for adults that are slightly torn, for example, for a great afternoon of crafting. You can make small figures out of them, like the monsters in the picture above.Craft with buttons, googly eyes and felt funny faces, stuff the gloves with stuffing and sew up all the openings. When crafting, you can also cut off one or two glove fingers. The variants are numerous!

Make finger puppets

If you add a face to the fingertips, the children's gloves turn into funny hand puppets that you can use to create a puppet theater. Dolls, monsters or even animals can be designed. You can use the entire glove for this, or just the parts of the fingers that you cut off and then design. In this way they canindividual finger puppetscan also be used separately.

These two ideas are suitable for play and a puppet theater as well as for everyday life. The area between the index finger and thumb is designed. Cut out two strips of white felt that are jagged on one side (zigzag scissors can be helpful here). Glue or sew one of the strips to the underside of the index finger and the other to the top of the thumb. You already have a mouth with teeth. Then cut out a larger, jagged strip for the back from green felt and finally glue a wobbly eye on it. It is best to use textile glue.

Or how about the other monsterwith bat wings? Its eyes consist of small pom-poms that have wiggly eyes and are then glued to the index finger. You make the teeth like you did with the other monster. You can then add wings if you want. Of course you can experiment with the colors.

Monsters and spring flowers

Just because it's fall or winter doesn't mean we can't look forward to the spring flowers. The colorful flowers can simply be made from felt and then decorated with children's gloves. If you find the flowers on your fingertips rather annoying, you can simply decorate the back of your hand with a few homemade flowers.

Funny hen, chicks and eggs

This fun idea is probably more suitable for playing or just for crafting. One of the gloves becomes a hen, while the other represents two chicks and two eggs in a basket. You can try this craft idea at Easter, for example, and use old gloves for children or adults. If you want to achieve a certain 3D effect, you can also stuff the gloves with filling material and sew them shut. You'll get a great Easter decoration!
