There is hardly a girl who doesn't love a dollhouse - the toy has proven itself to be an absolute classic over the years. And if the modern plastic versions seem too impersonal for you, you can instead take the old wooden house out of the basement, repaint it and make it available to the next generation. Of course, the furniture for the dollhouse should not be missing. If the old furnishings are damaged or completely missing, creativity is particularly important. We'll show you 15 ideas on how you can make furniture yourself from household items. Let the suggestions inspire you - the instructions are super simple and ideal even for craft beginners.
Put together a guest house out of paper
Does the old dollhouse need an extension - for example because there are not enough rooms for all the Barbies? Then a paper guest house offers a quick space solution. Simply cut out the walls from cardboard. Cut out openings in the cardboard for the door and windows and stick wooden sticks to the door and window sashes for more stability. Now all you have to do is put the house together – and arrange the toys inside.
Make houseplants from natural materials
For the imaginative decoration shown above you will need the following materials: several chestnuts, wooden sticks, green wooden beads, pink glass beads, hot glue or hot glue gun and screwdriver. Simply drill holes in the chestnuts with a screwdriver, insert the wooden sticks and stick them in place. Decorate the chestnuts with the wooden and glass beads.
Make a photo wall for the dollhouse
Under no circumstances should the walls in the new guest house remain empty. Cut out several photos from old magazines and make photo frames from the wooden sticks. Stick the pictures arranged in this way on the wall.
Coffee table made from tea lights and bowl made from bottle caps
Let's start setting it up - first we'll show you how to make a coffee table yourself out of two tea lights and a can lid. All you need for the project is silicone glue. You can decorate the table with a “bowl” – actually a bottle cap filled with glass beads.
First stick the two tea lights together with the bottom side and let them dry aside. The tea lights form the table column on which you will later attach the table top.
Now place the can lid on the tea lights and attach it with the hot glue gun. We recommend that you sand the sharp edges with a file or sandpaper.
Optionally, you can use a plastic can lid for safety.
Make your own sofa out of dishwashing sponge
No living room should be without a sofa - now even your favorite doll can relax on a comfortable couch. For the next craft project you will need the following materials: a dishwashing sponge, felt, cardboard, hot glue gun.
Simply wrap the dishwashing sponge with the felt fabric and glue the ends of the fabric together. Cut out a detail from the cardboard for the backrest. If desired, you can paint it or decorate it additionally with wrapping paper. Attach the cardboard detail with the hot glue gun. Complete!
Accessories for the dollhouse – felt carpet
A round felt rug adds the finishing touch to the living room and rounds off the furnishings in the lounge area. Simply draw a circle on the felt with a compass and a pencil, cut it out and position it in front of the sofa.
Make a wardrobe out of a box

For the wardrobe you will need the following materials: a cardboard box, cardboard in different colors, silicone glue, wire, paper clip and glass beads. The following tools will help you with the task: wire cutters, a pencil, a ruler. Follow the photo instructions above step by step.
When the wardrobe is finished, bend the paper clip with wire pliers so that it looks like a small clothes hanger.
Bed for Barbie
When Barbie goes to sleep at night, she needs a comfortable bed. We'll show you how you can make one out of a cardboard box. You need cardboard packaging (e.g. rice packaging), cardboard, colorful packaging paper, felt, 3 wooden sticks, silicone glue or hot glue gun.
And this is how the bed is made: Cover the sides of the box with colorful packaging paper. Glue a piece of pink felt (it will serve as a bedsheet for Barbie) to the top. Cut the headboard out of cardboard, stabilize it with the wooden sticks and attach it with the hot glue gun. Use a piece of yellow felt as a bed cover.
Sew a pillow out of felt
To ensure that Barbie lies as comfortably as possible, she only needs a pillow. You can make this yourself using felt and cotton pads. You will need: a small square piece of felt, 2-3 cotton pads, sewing thread, a needle, scissors.
Fold the cotton pads in two and use them as “filling” for the pillow. Then sew the ends of the square piece of felt together.
Make your own furniture for the dollhouse – dining table and chairs made from plastic cups
In this cozy dining room, Barbie can end the evening with a meal with her friends. Decorated with colorful pictures on the walls, cozy house plants and a deep-pile carpet made of paper napkins, the room looks cozy and inviting. All that's missing is the dining table and chairs.
For the dining table you will need a CD, a sheet of pink cardboard, a transparent plastic cup, scissors, a pencil, hot glue gun. First use the CD as a template and cut a circle out of the cardboard. Stick the pink circle on the CD and let it dry.
Finally, the plastic cup and the CD are glued together (see photo above).
For the four chairs you will need four plastic cups, pink felt, scissors and a hot glue gun. Follow the photo instructions above.
