We have great news for all hobby mountaineers today! A modern Alpine hut with a wooden interior was built. It is located under Skuta Mountain in Slovenia and is intended to be a warm-up shelter for all mountaineers. The mountain hut was created in collaboration between OFIS architects and AKT II, as well as students from the Harvard University Graduate School of Design, Freeapproved and PD Ljubljana Matica.
Due to the climatic conditions in the Slovenian Alps, the planning and construction were a challenge for the architects, engineers and designers. The project was initiated by the students. The goal was to have oneinnovative mountain hutto design and build that can simultaneously withstand extreme climate changes, which include rain, snow and wind, and harsh terrain. For this purpose, the students presented 12 different projects, in which, among other things, suggestions for the necessary materials and programmatic matters were listed.
The new villain the Alpsreplaces the 50-year-old Aljaz Tower. Its shape is adapted to the weather conditions, but at the same time it also offers a great extra: the large window fronts allow visitors to take a look at the breathtaking landscape. The hut was partly built in advance and then transported to the selected location by helicopter by the Slovenian army.
The interior is divided into three areas. The front one, which is also the entrance area, serves as a cooking area. In the middle part there are again seating and lying areas. There are bunk beds in the rear part.
