The beautiful “floating” house is located in Gyeonggi, South Korea and was designed in 2009 by architects Hyunjoon You. This residential project is particularly impressive due to its location on the Han River and the magical view provided by the long glass balcony railing. The house was designed for a couple who run an elegant Korean restaurant serving traditional cuisine.
The homeowners dreamed of a view of the river from a third-story level, which was undoubtedly achieved thanks to the architecture and the glass balcony railing that encases the entire building. The house with the fantastic panorama has a main building, a guest house in the backyard, a barbecue area and a swimming pool in the large, sunny courtyard to the south. So that you can view the river from the backyard and the guest house, the main building was raised off the ground using a pillar construction with thick columns, so that passages were created and the beautiful view was not impaired.
You can see the river from every single area of this house. The large, planted roof terrace offers the opportunity to admire the river from above. To make the house look larger, a 1 meter wide balcony with a glass balcony railing runs around the entire building. Black concrete with a tile look was used for the facade to maintain the typical Korean style. The living rooms are distributed in the middle of the house, so that a “visual relationship” with the river is always maintained thanks to the large window front and the glass railing on the balcony.
