Futurism in architecture and interior design – CoMed Haus in Vienna

In 2016, Ad2 Architects completed their “CoMed” house project in Vienna, Austria. The building is an excellent example of the influence of Futurism in architecture today. As one of the most important movements of the 20th century, it stands out from the other styles that have existed in the past and remains cutting edge. Important aspects are the dynamics and the technical forms, which place little value on the traditional idea of harmony.

Futurism in Architecture – A modern residential building in Vienna

The dynamic nature of the forms is typical of Futurism in architecture. Through visual design means such as light and theSelection of materialsstrong contrasts are achieved. It is precisely these that give the respective building “movement”. The surfaces clearly have technical features that conjure up a modern and even minimalist effect. These characteristics are also carried over into the interior design.

“CoMed” is a residential building located on a hillside. The special location inspired the architects for the terraced design of the outdoor and indoor areas. The living space of 400 square meters extends over three living levels and there is also a modern garden with gravel and lawn and a beautiful pool. The futuristic facade basically consists of darkened glass and polished gray aluminum panels that reflect the light beautifully. Thegeometric form languageand the perfect surfaces conjure up a minimalist overall picture that can also be replicated indoors.

The interiors are made entirely of glass on one side and are therefore oriented towards the inner garden with the pool. The futuristic furnishings are simple and designed in black and white. The contrast between the two non-colors visually divides the rooms into areas. The angular, geometric design language is further emphasized by the integrated indirect lighting. In contrast to the conventional bathrooms and kitchens, which are usually designed in light colors, these are completely black and have a very minimalist design.

The unconventional proportions and interesting design solutions also make a big impression in outdoor garden design. Completely in keeping with the style of the interior, the garden areas and plant beds are geometrically divided and properly highlighted by harmonious outdoor lighting.
