In today's article we would like to present to you the Japanese house “Shoei House” in Kyoto, which is undoubtedly one of the architectural masterpieces due to its unique architecture. The narrow and long house “Shoei House” was designed in 2017 by the architects Hearth Architects. For several years now, a Japanese architectural style that cannot be found in Europe has been visible in Japan. The “Shoei House” impresses with this unique architecture. New architectural ideas, such as the so-called “eel beds”, arise due to the lack of space where even the smallest gap is built.
The narrow and long house in Kyoto has this special architectural style. The Unagi no Nedoko, the so-called eel beds, are houses that offer an enormous amount of living space on tiny plots of land. The Shoei House, for example, was designed for a 5.5 meter wide plot. The modern Japanese house stretches from east to west and has a total length of 32 meters. A Japanese architectural style like this has become established as a traditional house style in Kyoto. Because of the orientation of the house, hardly any light penetrates from the north and south. That was reason enough to distribute the rooms over two floors. In this narrow housethere is no useless space.
The interior design
On the first floor there is the entrance to the house, the storage room, the children's room, the cloakroom and a bedroom. The second floor houses the living area, the kitchen with dining area, the laundry room and the veranda. The total living space is 115.72 square meters. Another highlight of Shoei House are the many plants and trees that have been planted both inside and outside. This way you can feel nature and the seasons even when you are indoors. A tall tree stretches from the first floor to the roof and even peeks out from a skylight. The interior design of the house is characterized by the calm and simple Japanese style. Warm wood was used as flooring, which was combined with theWooden beams on the ceilingbe in harmony. The kitchen and bathroom furniture was also made of light wood.
