Large round windows give this residential building an absolutely distinctive look

The Australian studio BKK Architects designed this fascinating apartment block with 44 units in East Ivanhoe, a suburb of Melbourne. Large, round windows contrast with the black clinker facade. You not only determine the appearance of the Cirqua Apartments, but also the living ambience. They take almost the whole height and width of the six cubes protruding to the street and flood the living rooms with a lot of light.

Large round windows let daylight in the room

Cirqua creates a new living environment for East Ivanhoe. The project includes the consolidation of two neighboring properties in a luxurious apartment building. The project location on a steeply sloping property was the subject of several failed planning applications in the past and was influenced by a variety of planning guidelines and physical restrictions. The residential building comprises 44 apartments with different sizes and types.

Rooms are kept in black, white and gray

The project is designed in such a way that the accessibility and passive environmental compatibility are carefully taken into account. All bedrooms and living areas have direct access to daylight and natural ventilation. Enough green areas were also integrated into the design to create high -quality landscaping. The individual components and systems are strongly asymmetrically distributed to reduce the total mass of the building. The design uses regional, historical forms of living that are interpreted in a contemporary way.

Kitchen with dining area and access to the balcony

The design was developed to convey a strong feeling of cosiness and at the same time the street rhythm. Generous glazing maximize the connection to the surrounding garden. The landscape design captures the garden city idea of Ivanhoe.

The interiors are neutral, with rib wood floors and gray carpets. White walls and marble spaces create a fresh atmosphere in the open living areas. The bathrooms are covered with tiles in black and white. The fittings in black set dramatic accents.
