Modern construction meets traditional materials

A two-story house in Azipita, Lima, Peru was built in 2015 by Estudio Rafaer Feyre using modern construction methods and using traditional materials. It is located on the hillside in the desolate valley 90 km from the capital and 20 km from the coast of the Pacific Ocean. The devastated area is known for its pre-Columbian ruins and contrasting landscapes.

The typical features of the region –the devastated landscape, the nearby river and vineyards, as well as the historical heritage shape the design of the house in every respect. Traditional materials such as natural stone, clinker brick and wood are used in sustainable, modern construction to create a cozy home.

The single-family home is located on a slope and the garden is designed accordingly. There is a pool available in the lower area of the property and directly attached to the house - a beautiful covered terrace with a view of the contrasting landscape and vineyards.

The design and building materials used outside can also be replicated inside. The traditional workmanship with carvings and decorative elements is prominent in every room. In Peruvian culture, the kitchen, usually the kitchen-living room, is the center of the house. That's exactly how it is in this architect's house - the entire ground floor is separated as a common room.
