Round skylights and metal pendant lights set accents in this Bauhaus-style villa

Israeli architect Lilian Benshoam designed a villa near Tel Aviv in 2017 that was inspired by rationalism in architecture. The design features the popular Bauhaus style and impresses with its classic shapes, which are used in interesting ways. Viewed from the outside, the villa looks like any other contemporary home – a rectangular volume characterized by simple, straight lines. Inside, however, things look completely different. Round skylights and circular pendant lights create unusual lighting effects in the interior, which are further enhanced by the color white. The main shape in the interior is the circle, which appears in the design of the spiral staircase. You can read more about this impressive villa in Israel in today's article.

Round roof windows add accents inside and out

Light is an important design element in architecture. This is also visible from the project by architect Lilian Benshoam. The villa is located in Ramat haSharon – a small town in Israel, about 15 kilometers northeast of Tel Aviv. At first glance, the two-story house doesn't make much of an impression, which may have been exactly the architect's intention. In contrast to the front facade, the rear has something interesting to offer. In addition to the modern terrace with pergola and pool right next to it, the roof is a visual highlight.

Round skylights decorate the concrete roof and at the same time allow sunlight to stream through. However, these are not real windows as they do not have glass panes. The gaps fulfill a purely aesthetic function in the outside space and give the house a playful design.

The interesting design of the roof continues inside the house. In contrast to these in the outside area, these areInterior skylightsNaturally equipped with tight glass panes and not only serve aesthetic purposes. You are in the stairwell, which serves as a transition between the living room and the kitchen. The round elements allow plenty of daylight to pass through and create a light-flooded interior. All roof windows are round, although only the diameter varies. This allows playful lighting accents to be set in the interior.

The circle as the main shape characterizes the lighting

After sunset, however, the roof windows can no longer fulfill their practical function. Since the circle serves as an important design element in the interior, the Israeli architect chose designer pendant lights with a round design for the stairwell. These are the U-Light LED pendant lights made of metal by designer Timo Ripatti. They impress with their unusual shape and minimalist design. The rust look of the lamps looks extremely modern and fits perfectly into the otherwise monochrome furnishing concept. Viewed from below, the U-shaped lights look like perfect circles and are in perfect harmony with the round skylights.

A modern spiral staircase completes the overall picture

Since the circle acts as the main element in the interior, the architect naturally chose a round staircase shape. Themodern spiral staircasewith white railings and steps made of dark wood stands in the middle of the staircase and serves as a connection between the individual elements with a round shape. Round skylights, circular pendant lights and a spiral staircase create an ideal ensemble within the villa.

Just like the lights, the spiral staircase also has a minimalist design. It has no risers, just steps that are very thin. There is a contrast between the dark steps and the white railing of the staircase, which is softened by the absence of risers. The design of the spiral staircase exudes modernity and elegance and is completely in harmony with the rest of the furnishings in the house.

Bauhaus style furnishings

The circle as a shape can also be used in the furnishings without appearing dominant. The coffee table, some plant pots and a few lighting fixtures feature the familiar basic shape of the architecture. Otherwise, the interior is finethe popular Bauhaus style. Designer furniture, metallic accents, leather and a few playful patterns here and there characterize the furnishings in the Israeli villa.
