At first glance, it seems to contradict itself. The selection of vegetable alternatives in the supermarket increases from month to month. At the same time, more and more videos are circulating on social media in which bloody meat is advertised as a meal. It can actually only be Raige-Bait-that is, content, which causes indignation-when a petite woman bites into a piece of raw liver. Directly from the hand on which the blood runs down.
In fact, the "carnivore" diet has long since become a nutritional trend. What is most surprising: they are not a muscle prinks, but mostly young women who pose in aesthetically furnished kitchens with defined abdominal muscles and shiny, hip-length hair. Instead of a coffee, drink a hearty bone broth with a collagen powder in the morning. That is a "miracle cure". For beauty and also for health.
To put this trend - literally - put through its paces, we spoke to Prof. Hans Hauner. The director of the Else Kröner-Fresenius Center for Nutritional Medicine has been dealing with what is really healthy for people for over 20 years.
What is the Carnivore diet?
The Carnivore diet, which mainly consists of meat, is nothing new. A few years ago, she was haunted by the media under the name "Stone Age Diet" or "carnivore diet".
To date, there is no evidence-based evidence that the Carnivore diet brings health benefits. Prof. Hauner says about the statements of positive effects of a meat -based diet: "These are individual reports that have no scientific resilience." On the contrary: the one -sided diet with too much protein contains the kidney and leads to a lack of vitamins, minerals and trace elements that can be dangerous.

He believes that the trend not only comes from a diet culture that is generally recommended for restrictive nutrition, but is also "a reaction to the prevailing attitude that pronounces for plant -based nutrition". Opinion and ideology meet here, says Hauner.
Myths of carnivoren nutrition: What really is right?
But what about the experience reports in which young women in particular film themselves while eating and keep their bellies on the side of the camera. They say that the diet let them take better, breastfeed their "food noise" and make them the most beautiful skin, as well as healthy hair and nails. Some even report that it would have healed their irritable bowel.
In order to reduce overweight, Prof. Hans Hauner does not recommend completely avoid carbohydrates and other foods. The expert for researching obesity and type 2 diabetes says: “If I eat more restrictively, I always lose weight, regardless of whether I only eat pineapple or feed on the food. It is completely uncertain whether a Carnivore diet leads to special weight loss. ” It always depends on the design, because meat can also be incredibly greasy. Even if it shows success, the question is always for him: "What price and how long -term is it?"
Anyone who eats Carnivor has no idea about the metabolism. From a medical point of view, this is complete nonsense.
Proving. Hans Hauner
If you completely dispense with carbohydrates, the blood sugar level drops first. This has briefly advantages for people with diabetes. In the long term, however, it makes no sense because we need different energy -supplying components. Our brain cells can only burn sugar. You need about 120 grams a day. If the body does not get it, it simply converts the protein out of the meat into glucose. This happens through so -called glucoplastic amino acids: “If you eat Carnivor, you have no idea about the metabolism. From a medical point of view, it is complete nonsense, ”emphasizes Hauner.
The experienced nutritionist also shakes his head when it comes to beauty. With this trend, according to him, you will unnecessarily risk health through malnutrition and the environment due to the high CO2 strain of meat. There is no reason for making a carnivore cost more beautiful skin and shiny hair: "This is freely invented, that's all nonsense!"
Counter movement of the supposed tradition
What the "“The Carnivore diet is a trend for society, so to speak, for nutrition: a countermovement towards a supposed tradition. Self-cornen nutritional prophets with hundreds of thousands of followers claim that Carnivor is a step back to nature. We know that today meat is not "pure" in most cases.
So why are there so many popular science “evidence” that speak for the diet but speak against all studies? For Prof. Hans Hauner, it is obvious that there are also financial interests behind it: "The meat industry is known that it has repeatedly promoted such trends." What certain doctors claim in detail does not always have a substance: "You have to be very careful whether these people really know about the topic."
You still don't have to be completely rejecting meat: "I don't mind if people eat meat or a lot of meat." Hauner does not think of vegan dogmatism. For him there would be no reason to completely forbid meat. What his institute has recommended for years is moderate meat consumption and a plant -emphasized food. In the end, people are and remains one: an omnivore.
