It is said to prevent hair loss, ensure a healthy scalp and stimulate hair growth. We're not talking about any expensive hair tonic, but rather rosemary water. Yes, you heard right, the green herbs that many people use in cooking are said to be a real hair miracle cure.

Influencers on TikTok and Instagram swear by the natural product and praise it in numerous self-experiments. Many of the TikTokers report that small new baby hairs appear more and more after a few weeks of use.

Rosemary water has this effect on the scalp and hair

Rosemary has a blood circulation effect and is not only good for the scalp, but can also help with acne and dry skin. As it promotes blood circulation, the hair roots are stimulated, which has a positive effect on hair growth. It fights flaky, dry and itchy scalp and has an anti-inflammatory effect. It can also give the hair new shine and make it more supple. This in turn can improve combability.

In fact, studies show the positive effects of rosemary on the scalp. In oneStudy from 2015Men with hereditary hair loss applied rosemary water to their scalp. After six months, they noticed a positive effect on hair growth and less hair falling out.

Many medications prescribed to combat hair loss come with side effects. In the case of the most common form of hair loss, hereditary hair loss, there are currently two proven remedies that help. One is finasteride, which is only prescribed for men, and the other is minoxidil. The latter is recommended for women who suffer severely from hereditary hair loss. However, both finasteride and minoxidil are associated with side effects in some cases. Finasteride can cause loss of libido, erectile dysfunction, and depression. People who use minoxidil often experience itching, redness, and inflammation of the scalp.

Rosemary water, on the other hand, is a natural product that has no side effects. It is better tolerated and significantly cheaper than many other medications and remedies that are intended to help with hair loss and brittle hair. However, you shouldn't expect too much. Because even if rosemary water poses no risks, it is (unfortunately) not a miracle cure for the hair.

Rosemary water is not a miracle cure

How fast your hair grows is genetically anchored. On average, hair grows around 1 to 1.5 cm per month. Rosemary water won't cause your hair to suddenly grow 2 inches per month. Many of the TikTokers, especially female ones, have full, thick hair anyway. But this has nothing to do with rosemary water, it is also pure genetics. Nevertheless, you can strengthen your hair with rosemary and protect it more from external influences. So it definitely doesn't hurt.

Be careful during pregnancy! Pregnant women should avoid rosemary water. It is suspected of having a labor-promoting effect.
