The delicate almond pastry comes from sunny Sicily and is also used thereAlmond paste- even though it has nothing to do with pasta. The typical Italian cookies impress with a fine marzipan aroma that literally tastes like “Bella Italia”. We'll show you how you can easily put this Mediterranean highlight on your cookie plate yourself!

Fior di Mandorla: Simple recipe

Fior di Mandorla are light and airy and softer than their Italian relatives, the Cantuccini. They literally melt in your mouth and their wonderful almond and marzipan aroma makes the whole apartment smell like they are baking.

Fior di Mandorla may sound unusual, but they can be prepared very quickly and easily. You only need 7 ingredients for the Italian recipe and not even a mixer.

Ingredients for 12 pieces:

  • 150 g ground almonds
  • 2 packs of vanilla sugar
  • 3 drops of bitter almond flavor
  • 1 egg white

For decoration:

  • powdered sugar

Preparation:

1.Preheat the oven to 180°C top/bottom heat and line a baking tray with baking paper.

2. Mix the dry ingredients (ground almonds, sugar and vanilla sugar) together in a bowl. Add the egg white and knead everything until a uniform dough is formed.

3. Sift powdered sugar onto the work surface. Remove 12 walnut-sized balls from the dough, roll them briefly in your hands and then coat generously in powdered sugar. Place on the baking sheet.

4. Bake in the preheated oven for 12 minutes. Make sure that the Fior di Mandorla does not get too dark.

The nice thing about this simple recipe: you can modify it to suit your taste. For example, if you don't like almonds or are allergic, you can also replace them with ground onesPistachiossubstitute. As a decoration, you can place whole pistachios on the green balls before baking.
