What exactly are still balls?

Time is something that is missing new mums, chronic. Of course, it also knows that they also know and don't like to give you the tip for drinking something in the first time and also provide something to eat when you are breastfeeding. Because in fact a breastfeeding mom consumes more calories, up to 500 kcal a day. Because in the first few weeks after birth you don't really get the healthy diet from pregnancy with you to the new parental leave, something different, effective and healthy is needed.

Basic recipe for nursing balls to Ingeborg Stadelmann

In her book 'The Midwife Consultation' (Available here from Amazon*) Ingeborg Stadelmann has listed a simple and productive basic recipe for still balls.

Basic ingredients for still balls are:

  • 1 kg of cereals -ideally already roughened (e.g. wheat, barley, spelled, oats -> can be mixed as desired.)
  • 300g cooked whole grain rice (corresponds to approx. 100g of uncooked rice)
  • 350g butter (or ghee or coconut oil)
  • 300g honey (or agave syrup, coconut blossom nectar or date paste)
  • 1 glass of water
  • 1 cup of ingredients of your choice, such as dried dates, raisins or apricots, cashew nuts, almonds, coconut flakes, cocoa or almondmus
  • If you like it, you can also add a little cinnamon or roasted sesame

Reading tip:

Preparation: This is how the recipe works
First roast the roughly scratched grain in a pan without oil until it is slightly brown. Directly, so when it is still warm, mix with the remaining ingredients. Add the water in small portions until a pleasant, kneadable and sticky mass is created (add too much water, unfortunately the balls crumble). Now form about 2 centimeters tall balls. It works best with slightly moistened hands.

If you like, you can still roll the finished energy balls through coconut flakes, sesame, chocolate dubes or whatever you like.

Extra tip:Still balls are a great and useful gift for mums in the puerperium. Airtight packaged in a wake-up glass (Order here from Amazon*) Do something really. And they taste anyway, whether mom, dad, friends or family.

Depending on which ingredients the style balls are used, their durability changes. Still balls according to the basic recipe made with butter can be stored in the fridge for a few days. If you want to keep them longer or make a large amount directly, it is best to freeze the breastfeeding balls in portions. This enables you to extend your durability by many weeks.

If you replace the butter with ghee (or butter wax) or coconut oil, the durability in the refrigerator is extended to up to three months. You can also freeze these balls and thaw as required.
