The British Rocket Man star has undoubtedly been a member of many exclusive clubs over the decades. However, these are not as exclusive as the one he officially joined on Wednesday.
Big honor for Sir Elton John
The 74-year-old was made a member of the Order of Companions of Honor. This is a special award given to individuals who have served in the arts, sciences, medicine or government for a long period of time. In addition to the monarch, there can only be a maximum of 65 members at any one time. The Briton was added to Queen Elizabeth II's Companions of Honor list at the end of 2019 for his achievements in music and charities. He was appointed in an investiture ceremony at Windsor CastlePrinz Charlesthe rock star as a member of the order. The current members also include the British environmentalist David Attenborough. There is also the Canadian author Margaret Atwood and one of the greatest British athletes, Sebastian Coe. The group, which once included British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, can only have a maximum of 65 members without the sovereign.
The singer-songwriter, who walked with the help of an ornate cane after hip surgery, was considering a career. He has released a hit single in every decade since the 1970s.
