Already last yearplastic surgeonsa higher demand for facial treatments. They cited the increased use of Zoom in the home office as the reason. According to a survey, interest has now changed. Both women and men say they would consider having cosmetic surgery below the “Zoom line,” which is the area visible on Zoom calls.
Trendy cosmetic surgery – why tummy tucks and liposuction are desired
But what is the reason why liposuction and tummy tucks are in the top places? Consumers cite weight gained during the pandemic as the reason. There is also a fact that should not be underestimated. The patients can then recover discreetly at home, thanks to home office. The survey took place in the USA and consisted of 1000 participants. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 1 in 10 women surveyed said they are now thinking more about plastic surgery than they were before the pandemic. Of those who have already had cosmetic surgery, a quarter said that further cosmetic surgery was an option.
“The pandemic is not over yet, but thanks to vaccines, a new normal is beginning to be defined – and some surgeons' offices that closed or offered limited services last year are seeing higher demand,” says plastic surgeon Lynn Jeffers, Chief Medical Officer Officer at St. Johns Pleasant Valley Hospital with a private practice in Ventura County, California.
Boom after decline
Last year, plastic surgeons noted a 14% decline in demand for cosmetic surgery compared to the previous year. The only exceptions were breast implants, whose demand rose by 5%, and buttock implants as cosmetic surgery, which rose by 22%. Even the number of the otherwise most popular minimally invasive procedures, namely Botox injections, has declined. Demand fell by a full 13%.
“We've seen kind of a boom in a number of things - a kind of zoom effect where you've seen people look at themselves and their faces more critically,” said James Economides, a plastic surgeon at Advanced Plastic Surgery Center in Washington , DC in Virginia.
