Donald Trump's Truth Social app will apparently launch as a social network in February 2022. The app's launch would come 13 months after Facebook and Twitter banned the former US president. This happened because he is said to have encouraged his supporters to take part in the Capitol attack on January 6th. The new application was therefore designed as an alternative to the other social networks. His goal is to counter the “tyranny of big tech companies” that are silencing the country’s opposition voices.

The developers of the app are the Technology and Media Group (TMTG). This is a new media company led by former U.S. Rep. Devin Nunes. Similar to Twitter, the app offers functions for following other people and trending topics, according to demo photos. The profile page, shown in a screenshot, looks almost exactly like Twitter's, and posts appear to have icons for replies, retweets, favorites and shares. Marking the one-year anniversary of the attack, US President Joe Biden said on Thursday his predecessor's false claims could unravel the rule of law and undermine future elections. TMTG and Apple did not respond to requests for comment. However, a source familiar with the matter confirmed that February 21 will be the app's planned launch date.
It is still unclear whether Truth Social will also be available on the web and/or Android on February 21st. There is currently only one button to pre-order the free app in the App Store. Additionally, there is no information about whether such a new social network will be invite-only when it launches. The launch is expected to be the first of three phases in TMTG's development. The second would be a video-on-demand service called TMTG+ with entertainment, news and podcasts, according to the company website. A presentation in November 2021 indicated that TMTG also wants to launch a podcast network.
