New study results show that theConsumption of peanut productscould help improve the body's stress response and cognition. These legumes are of great nutritional interest because they are rich in fatty acids, proteins, fiber, polyphenols and other bioactive compounds. In addition, current research provides new insights into the health effects of a nut-rich diet.
Benefits of Eating Peanuts on Stress Response in the Body
Researchers conducted this study on a group of 63 healthy people between the ages of 19 and 33. Participants regularly included peanut products in their daily diet. Accordingly, the authors observed a positive effect on improving cognitive function and stress response in a young and healthy population. The research team analyzed the potential benefits of peanuts through a wide range of cognitive tests related to biochemical indicators of stress response such as cortisol. The results also showed an increase in short-chain fatty acids in the intestinal microbiome. Aside from specific saturated fatty acids in this nut, polyphenols contained in it are associated with many health benefits. Researchers found no significant differences between peanut butter consumption and cognitive function or stress response biomarkers, suggesting additional benefits.
The prebiotic substances contained in peanuts, such as polyphenols, improved cognition and mood indirectly through interactions with the gut microbiota. In addition, these had a positive effect on the gut-brain axis. The high content of prebiotic fiber and polyphenols in peanuts could therefore explain their positive effects on the intestinal microbiota. Short-chain fatty acids such as acetic and butyric acid are the main metabolites produced by the gut microbiota. They appear to be effective against various diseases, including depression and neurodegenerative diseases. This studyshowed promising results, which, however, still require proof in future research with a larger group of people. In view of this, the team would like to expand the new study results on the effects of consuming peanut products and its bioactive compounds on the microbiota through microbial analyses.
