Craft ideas for young and old
Below you will find a few beautiful and simple ideas that you can recreate. There are variants for adults, but also ones that are suitable for children to spend a fun, creative afternoon of crafting together.
Make a table lamp with branches and twigs
Do you still have an unsightly lamp lying around that you don't want to throw away?A bit of upcyclingcan work real miracles. Decorate the stand with a few branches or twigs and, if you feel like it, dip out the lampshade or fabric.
- old or new floor lamp
- any branches, e.g. driftwood
- Hot glue
- primer
- light brown acrylic paint
- Wooden ball
- Acrylic wood varnish
- a sharp knife (e.g. carpet knife)
- sandpaper
- Brush and palette
Before you start the craft project, clean the branches. Remove bark and dirt from the surface and then allow it to dry thoroughly for a few days.
- In order for the branches to stand on the lamp base, they must be cut straight on one side. Use a saw for this and then sand the edges smooth.
- Paint the wood with the clear varnish. After 6 hours for this first coat to dry, apply a second coat and let it dry in the same way.
- The next step is optional: If you don't like the stand, you can design it with acrylic paint and give it a wooden look, for example.
- As soon as the paint has dried well, you can use the glue to glue the branches onto the lamp base and around the stand. To do this, first remove the lampshade so that it doesn't bother you.
- After the hot glue has dried, use the carpet knife to cut off the visible residue.
- Put the umbrella back on and it's yoursDIY Lampcomplete.
Make unusual decoration ideas yourself – wooden candlesticks
Like the lamp variant, you can also have oneMaking candlesticks. To do this, the sticks are cut straight on both sides and then glued to a solid base. Make sure that the upper ends are far enough apart so that you can easily put the candle holders on.
Another variant would be to use a middle base branch if you don't want a base. All other branches are then placed around this base branch and glued on. In any case, it is important that you build a sturdy stand, especially if you use real candles. However, we still recommend using LED candles.
It is best to varnish the wood again in advance to make it more resistant. Then you can use the candle holder itself for the terrace.
