Do you think it's far too complicated to make this attractive accessory yourself? Not at all and the following Harry Potter DIY will convince you of this. What do you need if you want to make a Harry Potter wand?

  • Chopsticks or other wooden sticks
  • Craft clay in brown
  • Silicone molds for decorations
  • Pearls
  • Metallic-Farbe
  • kitchen paper

For our first idea, with which you can make a Harry Potter wand yourself, take a piece of craft clay and roll it out paper-thin. Wrap it around a chopstick, leaving the clay sticking out a little at the top. Then insert a bead into this protruding part and press the clay onto it so that it encloses it well. Then use the selected shapes to create beautiful clay motifs. Of course, you can also glue pieces of clay to the stick and then create beautiful patterns and motifs yourself using tools such as sticks, knives and the like.

Depending on what type of craft clay you used, let it air dry or bake it according to the package instructions. Once everything has cooled thoroughly, paint the wand with metallic paint. Then take a piece of kitchen paper and use it to wipe off as much paint as you want to get such a vintage effect. Or how about making the Harry Potter wand in the following way?

Heat this as usual in the hot glue gun and then apply it to the prepared (sanded and painted) wooden stick. Once the glue has dried, you can also paint it with any metallic paint you like.

Tipp: If you want to use wooden sticks like in this example, you should first sand one end to create a rounded tip that more closely resembles a magic wand.

Make a magic wand for Harry Potter with sticks

Who would likecrafts with natural materials, can also collect normal sticks for the Harry Potter wand and then convert them. Clean them well and you can design them and make your magic wand. They have the advantage of being naturally curvy, making them look even more like the magic wands from the movies. If the stick isn't curvy enough for you, you can even carve your wand. To do this, simply cut off a little of the wood in the desired areas, then sand it smooth and paint and design it as described above.

Use hot glue to create different sized balls on the stick and poke holes in them with a pen after the glue has dried. You can now also use glue or craft clay to create even transitions between the ball and the stick. Then paint the stick white and draw brown hieroglyphs between the two larger balls. Then paint the stick with brown paint, but leave out the area with the hieroglyphs.

Make a magic wand for a magician

The classic magician with a top hat and cape usually has a black staff with a white end. And as simple as this model sounds, it is also very simple to make. If you want to make a magic wand like this, all you need is a base for which you can use both a wooden stick and a straw, as well as black and white adhesive tape (electrical tape). Cut a piece of black tape that is the same length as your chosen stick/straw or a little shorter. Now glue this piece lengthwise around the rod. Now all you have to do is stick white tape around one of the two ends of the stick and your accessory for the costume is ready.

Tipp: You can also make both ends white.

Make fairy wands for children and adults

Staff with star

The classic among fairy wandsfor the popular fairy costumeis probably the one with a star. And this is not only quick and easy to make, but can also be expanded and additionally decorated as desired - with beads or ribbons, for example. If you would like to make a fairy wand, you will need:

  • a thin stick (e.g. shish kebab skewer with the tip cut off)
  • Craft cardboard/felt/foam rubber
  • Acrylic paints
  • Scissors and glue
  • Materials for decorating the stars (e.g. glitter or rhinestones)

Paint the stick any color you like (or how about wrapping it with ribbon or washi tape). While the paint is drying, draw and cut out a star shape from paper (or print and cut one). You then use this template to transfer the shape to the craft cardboard, felt or foam rubber. You need 2 pieces. Glue one end of the stick in the middle of one of the stars and the other above it. Now you can design the stars however you want.

If you want, you can stick ribbons around the stick when you glue it to the first star to make the fairy stick look even more interesting. By the way, not only stars are suitable. You can also choose butterflies, hearts or other shapes for the tip when making the magic wand. You can also stick the stick to a shape with adhesive tape.

With sequins

Sequins come in a variety of colors and shapes and are perfect for creating a magic wand. So if you want to make a floral magic wand like this, get any stick (stick, wooden dowel, chopstick), paint it any color and then glue different flower sequins to its tip. You can use hot glue for this, for example.

Only with ribbons

You don't need to add a shape when making the magic wand for the fairy costume. Feel free to just tie ribbons to the stick. Fabric ribbons and also pompom ribbons, lace or those decorated with sequins are suitable. If you choose a wooden dowel as a rod, you can also screw a small eyelet into the top end and attach the straps there. With a straw, you can stuff it into the opening. Of course, glue is also suitable.

Depending on whether you consider yourself good or evilDress up a witch, you can also design the magic wand. Delicate and friendly colors are suitable for the good witch, while the evil witch's wand should look more dark. The variants for Harry Potter are also ideal for witches. But you can also choose this quick version when making the magic wand, for which you simply spray regular sticks with glitter paint.

Alternatively, you can use regular spray paint or acrylic paint, color the stick and, while the paint is still wet, sprinkle glitter over it. Metallic colors are also ideal for this purpose. Or how about carving holes in the stick and gluing gems or regular stones into them?

The film is just as popular as Harry Potter“Frozen”. Little girls in particular often choose Elsa to dress up. Although the Queen of Arendelle uses her hands for her magic, you can still complement the costume with a matching wand. If you would like to make a matching magic wand, simply get snowflakes made of any material in light blue and silver or white and glue several of them together. You then glue this “snowflake pile” to a wooden stick or decorated straw after attaching a few ribbons to it. You can decorate the centerpiece with a pearl.
