Make a lantern with a paper bag – the quickest method for romantic lighting

It's getting dark earlier and it's time to think about some romantic lighting options to make the dark hours a little more pleasant. Dimmed light is of course particularly suitable for this and you can get this with lanterns, candles and lanterns, for example. How about making a pretty lantern with a paper bag?

Whether as an autumn decoration, to set up for Halloween or even for the St. Martin's parade - lanterns made from bread paper and other paper bags not only look surprisingly chic, but above all are super easy to make. Get the bags out of the cupboard and get started!

How to make a lantern quickly and easily with a paper bag

In principle, the bag itself gives you the perfect base for a lantern. It is hollow and is relatively stable. You should only weigh it down with a weight (e.g. small stones) when outdoors. All you have to do now is add any patterns and/or motifs you want. For yourDIY LanternCan you:

  • punch or punch the paper. The “windows” that are created then glow wonderfully later.
  • For colored light, you can also glue parchment or tissue paper to the inside and over the motifs.
  • Since the paper bags themselves allow light to pass through (especially the white ones), you can simply stick themed motifs on the outside instead of the windows (e.g. leaves or Halloween motifs).

Create any lantern for a party or Halloween by simply customizing the designs. Since you will be using LED tea lights (not real ones at all, as there is a high risk of fire!), we recommend placing more than one in each paper bag lantern so that they can glow a little more.

You can also use the same material for the St. Martin's Day paradeMake a lantern with a paper bag. To do this, all you have to do is punch holes in the top edges so that you can attach string for hanging. Alternatively, you can use a paper bag that already has handles and save yourself this step. It couldn't be easier!

Pumpkins and bats are ideal motifs for a Halloween lamp.

Stars are a nice idea in autumn as well as in winter and for Christmas.

Using a stencil, transfer stars onto the paper and cut them out. You can also shorten long bread bags with zigzag scissors or something similar to make lanterns.

You can stick funny and colorful pictures for party lanterns.

With wire you can quickly and easily get handles for carrying or hanging for hanging decorations.

Come up with beautiful patterns.

A great idea is to use self-painted pictures. It is best to use tracing paper.

  • Cut out a window from the bag that is slightly smaller than the picture.
  • Stick the picture on the inside of the bag.
