Originally used in fragrance lamps, tea lights are probably the smallest candle variant that can be found in almost every household. Today, the small lights mostly serve purely decorative purposes and like to decorate our homes. You should be very careful around children as a flickering flame can quickly become dangerous. Parents should explain to their children how to properly deal with fire and set clear boundaries. It is best to avoid real candles in the home of small children. Make your own jam jar lantern
Although the lights are very small, they have their own special charm and look very decorative. Beautiful lanterns can be easily made yourself with just a few simple steps and inexpensive materials. The self-designed lanterns are ideal as decoration inside and outside the house at any time of the year. Make lanterns for Christmas, Halloween, autumn or winter or just becauseas a garden decorationworks easiest with empty jam jars or disposable jars.
You can easily make the outside of the disposable glass playful with a permanent marker in any color. All you need is any motif. The child can choose this themselves on the Internet and print it out on the printer or they can draw it freehand. The printed motif should of course be tailored to the size of the respective glass. Then you attach it from the inside and use the marker to trace the motif on the outside. After the marker color dries up, the project is already finished.
HalloweenLantern with a delightful marble effect
A particularly artistic lantern can be designed in a similar way. A few wax crayons and a piece of paper are used for this. The child can choose the colors of the wax crayons themselves. Orange, grey, black and white are suitable for Halloween, but you can also use others. You also need a jam jar or a cylinder vase of the appropriate size.
First you have to measure the glass and cut a sheet of white paper accordingly. The paper should completely cover the inside of the glass and perhaps be 1-1.5 cm wider. Now grate the wax crayons using a vegetable peeler or a grater. The colored particles have to be mixed well and distributed relatively evenly over the entire sheet. To create the adorable marble effect, the small pieces of wax crayon are melted. To do this, either use a hairdryer or carefully put the sheet in the oven with a fan and low heat for a few minutes. (Please do not leave it unsupervised!) Finally, the marbled leaf is attached to the inside of the glass and of course an LED tea light is placed inside.
Tea light offPapiercraft
The most accessible material that children enjoy making crafts with is paper. You can also make a tea light out of a piece of beautiful paper and that's thanks to the mini LED candles. The creative paper lantern is made in the shape of a pyramid.
First you draw an equilateral triangle as a template and then four in total, so that a pyramid is created that is open on one side. Now cut out the figure precisely. Using a paper punch with any motif, punch out a few openings so that the light can flow through them. Finally, glue the two sides together and place the pyramid on the tea light.

Crafting is a lot of fun for children, especially when what they have made can later be put to practical use. Another pro point is if you use used items and thus recycle them. In this way you combine the useful with the environmentally friendly. This is how great lanterns can be made with children from empty cans. This craft project requires adult support because it involves working with tools.
For these beautiful can lanterns, in addition to a few empty and clean cans, you also need: sandpaper, acrylic paint, brushes, cordless screwdrivers, wire and beads that can be threaded through them. You first have to clean the emptied cans carefully, then remove the sharp edges, sand them down and polish the outside of each can a little with the sandpaper. Now the children can design the outside of the cans in any color they want.
While the paint is drying, each child makes a template of what the openings of their can lantern should look like. Very playful designs are possible here and there are no limits to creativity and imagination. When the child draws his template on a piece of paper, attach it to the colored can using scotch tape. Now the openings have to be made with a cordless screwdriver and this will definitely require the help of an adult.
Two more holes for the handle need to be drilled on both sides of each can. Each child uses a piece of wire to make a handle for their beautiful can lantern. The handle can also be decorated with beads. Finally, fix the wire on both sides of the can and you're done!
Lanternmake your own from ice cream
These are probably the most original idea for winter ice lanterns. It works really easily and you only need water and so ona few balloons. Adults should be careful so that children don't get a cold.
All you have to do is fill the balloons with water. Then before you tie each balloon in place, place a cylindrical container in the opening and let the filled balloons freeze in the freezer. It works easier in winter and you can put the balloons outside in the cold instead of in the freezer.
Alternatively, you can tie the balloons filled with water and later use a little hot water to make an opening for the LED tea light. If desired, the water can also be colored with food coloring and the ice lanterns will be colored.
Of course, you can only make these ice lanterns and decorate your garden with them in winter, otherwise the ice will melt very quickly.
