Free printable template

To make the Christmas card you will need:

  • The free print template
  • 1 piece of colored craft paper, preferably red
  • 2 sheets of plastic wrap just large enough to cover the snow globe (e.g. cling film, plastic wraps, freezer bags, etc.)
  • 1 image (either a photo or a child's drawing) to place in the snow globe
  • Filling material such as Styrofoam balls or artificial snow
  • Hot glue gun or double-sided tape
  • Glue or glue stick
  • Scissors

Step 1:Print out the template or design one yourself. Cut out the circle for the snow globe as shown above.

Step 2:Using a glue gun (or double-sided tape), glue a piece of plastic wrap to the back of the snow globe. It is important to seal the circle well and not leave any gaps as you don't want the snow to fall out. Also keep in mind that there should be some distance between the two layers of foil so that the shaking material can move freely.

Step 3:Place the Styrofoam balls on the foil, approximately in the middle, and then stick the second piece of plastic foil on top. Here too, make sure that there are no gaps.

Step 4:Stick a photo or drawing on the plastic sheet. Make sure that the image is positioned correctly in the viewing window and is clearly visible.

Step 5:Using regular craft glue or a glue stick, stick the printed template onto a piece of red paper. The colored paper should be slightly larger than the template.

Step 6:Once the glue has dried, fold the card in half and write your Christmas greetings inside.

Simple instructions for 3D Christmas card with Santa Claus

3D Christmas cardsoffer a modern and original change to ordinary greeting cards and really look great. Regardless of whether you design the shaking window with a Santa Claus or another Christmas motif, the snow globe is an eye-catcher in this design. For this reason, it should be in a striking color such as red, green or blue. In combination with these classic Christmas colors, gold and silver are an absolute must. To make the silver sequins look like dancing snowflakes, it's best to choose a background image with a snowy landscape.

Again, you don't need any special tools to make this cool snow globe Christmas card. But the result looks extremely exclusive.

Materials required:

  • Glitter paper in red
  • Foam tape
  • Christmas stickers, in this case 3D Santa Claus
  • Winter scrapbook paper for background
  • Clear film for the shaking window
  • Scissors
  • Water glasses with different diameters
  • Superglue and toothpicks
  • Thin tip marker pen
  • Filling material such as sequins, artificial snow, glitter and co.

Step 1:Set up the scene by placing the sticker where you want on the background. Using the larger drinking glass and a marker pen, draw a circle in the middle and then cut it out.

Step 2:Cut out a second circle of the same size from the cling film.

Step 3:Then you need to draw a third circle on the red glitter paper. To mark the viewing window in the middle, use the smaller glass. This creates a thin frame for the snow globe.

Step 4:Then glue the clear foil circle to the back of the frame.

Step 5:While the glue dries, cut small strips of foam tape and stack them on top of each other to create extra height.

Adjust the foam layers to the height of the selected decal. If your Santa Claus decal is three-dimensional, you can stack four layers. For a flatter image, you can just use two or three.

Step 6:Cut the foam strips into smaller pieces and glue them around the entire frame.

Step 7:To close the gaps between each piece and conceal the foam, also tape thin strips of the glitter paper along the entire inside and outside of the frame. This means that sequins or other glittering fillers cannot fall out of the snow globe.

Step 8:Before gluing Santa to the background, make sure he is sitting exactly where you want him to be.

Step 9:Then draw a trapezoid shape on the red glitter paper and cut it out. This is the base that needs to be attached to the back of the snow globe.

Step 10:Place the selected shaking material in the center of the foil. Apply superglue along the entire perimeter of the ring element and place the back on top so that both circles fit together perfectly. Allow the glue to dry completely before shaking the snow globe to avoid glitter sticking to the edges.

Step 11:Finally, glue the snow globe onto a finished folding card. To complete the design, you can also stick on other decorations and write something nice about them.

Voila, now you know how to make easy shaker cards! They offer numerous design options and can be adapted to any occasion! Let your imagination run wild and make beautiful individual shake cards for every occasion.
