Right after a cozy Christmas and a glamorous New Year's Eve, our four walls should continue to sparkle. It's still cool and cloudy outside and it's getting dark quickly. There should still be no shortage of lights. What could you decorate your home with now in January? How about a winter decoration with fairy lights?
You may even be able to leave some of the Christmas decorations standing. Simply remove everything that is really typically Christmas (e.g. baubles and other Christmas tree decorations, Christmas tree, Advent wreath, etc.) and keep winter arrangements with fairy lights, artificial snow and silver decorations, for example. Or create new winter decorations after Christmas!
Snowy lights jar
The combination of glass and lights is popular and simply perfect for combining elegance and romance. In theory, you don't even need to add any additional decorations and embellishments to achieve this. But if you want something particularly wintery, this snow glass is a great idea. This is how you can make your own winter decorations with fairy lights:
This is what you need for the pretty decoration after Christmas:
- Mason jar of any size
- Glue and wide brush (the glue should not become transparent when it dries but should remain white)
- Salt or artificial snow
- LED fairy lights
The winter decoration for the table is so easy:
- Place salt or fake snow on a plate.
- Coat the glass completely with the adhesive. Work as quickly as possible so that you can move on to the next step before it dries.
- Now dip the still wet glass into the salt/artificial snow and roll it in it until it is completely covered.
- Now let everything dry thoroughly and then shake off any excess salt/artificial snow.
- Distribute the fairy lights in the glass. The battery part can also be left inside as it will not be visible. However, it would be more convenient to switch it on and off if you attached it to or near the lid (for example with Velcro).
Make your own winter decorations with fairy lights made from fir trees
Of course the fairy lights are so pretty too. However, some people still want to decorate them a little more. And what could be better than small Christmas trees, which can easily be found in any decoration shop. Use a normal fairy light or a fairy light curtain to decorate a bare wall or a large window, as desired.
It is best to use LED fairy lights, as they have strands of wire instead of cables and are therefore easier to wrap around the trees. If you use normal fairy lights, you will still need wire or string to tie them on. And that's all you have to do: attach a Christmas tree to each light bulb in the chain.
You can also set up the trees to create a small forest for a bright winter landscape.
Curtain with winter garland
Buy a garland made from natural materials such as pine greens, pine cones or other branches and decorate it with other winter decorations if necessary. Hang them anywhere in the apartment: for example, at the entrance to the hallway, above a window or along a railing. Then hang a fairy light curtain underneath. The practical thing about this idea is that the curtain can stay hanging like this all year round. Simply replace the garland with other suitable elements depending on the season.

The glass bell is simply perfect for being used beyond its intended purpose, namely for such a beautiful winter landscape that could decorate your home at Christmas and then stay until spring. You can get this winter decoration with fairy lights in just a few steps:
- Distribute any winter decorations on a cake stand. This can be a house and a few Christmas trees made of any material. Small deer are also suitable.
- Spread moss around it (can also be artificial), on top of which you sprinkle artificial snow.
- Distribute the fairy lights in the glass dome and place them over the winter landscape.
You can choose for your landscapeunder the glass bell jarcome up with any other compositions. Simple natural materials can also be combined with a string of lights under the glass dome.
Wrap winter motifs with fairy lights
Stars, but also snowflakes, are suitable decorative motifs throughout the winter and are available in a wide variety of versions. Made from metal rods or wooden frames, they are the perfect basis for a winter decoration with a chain of lights, which is super easy to make. If you also enjoy crafting, you can also build something yourself using wire or wooden strips.

Take a star, for example, as its shape is particularly easy to manipulate. Simply wrap the fairy lights around its spikes. You can then lean it against a wall or hang it up and, for example, decorate the window from the inside with the fairy lights (or from the outside with a suitable model). Feel free to come up with other motifs. For example, a triangle can represent a Christmas tree. Or how about youMake snowflakes?
Feel free to combine two decorations together, like in this example. They don't both have to be lit. You can decorate the second star with artificial pine greenery or other things.
