Lanterns and lanterns are a wonderful way to decorate outside. And if the temperatures in your region allow it, you can even do thismake from ice.

Luminous ice balls for the garden

Garden and terrace can be decorated with such impressive ice balls. A few colorful flowers or just evergreen plant parts, if you want it to be more wintery, give the ball the finishing touch. How to make them:

  • Balloons
  • Water
  • any plant parts to decorate (must be flexible in order to rest well on the rounded surface)
  • waterproof LED candles or fairy lights

Light balls in just a few steps:

  • Fill as many balloons as you like with water and place them outside to freeze.
  • Once the water is completely frozen, you can remove the balloons.
  • Take the ball indoors and let warm water run on a spot for a short time to create a cool place for the LED tea light.
  • Back outside, you can then stick the selected plant parts onto the still wet surface.
  • You can also let snow fall onto the ball for a snowy look.
  • It's best to let the ball freeze well again.
  • Place the candle under the designated well.

Paper mache lantern

Those:@littlepinelearners/Instagram

This lantern should definitely be kept dry under a roof, as moisture would cause it to break sooner or later. Otherwise, it is of course also suitable for indoor use.

  • Tissue paper (any color)
  • Thuja branches (somewhat reminiscent of fir trees) or other natural materials
  • Balloons
  • Bastelkleber, z. B. Elmer’s Glue
  • Paint brush
  • Water
  • Container for drying the lanterns
  • LED tea lights or other candles, but under no circumstances with a real flame, as there is a risk of fire

Maybe you already know how to make paper mache. If not, here are quick instructions:

  • Inflate the balloon and tie it shut.
  • Place it on the selected container to act as a stand.
  • Mix the glue 1:1 with water (approximately).
  • You can also attach the first layer of paper to the balloon using just water (then it will be easier to remove the balloon later). To do this, dip the paper in water and stick it to the balloon.
  • Apply glue to this first layer and spread a new layer of paper, which you then fix with glue.
  • Then apply a final layer of paper and glue to this. This keeps the homemade lantern a little more transparent so that more light can shine through. But you could also add a fourth layer.
  • Now use the last layer of glue to attach the evergreen branches. Keep them pressed to the outside for some time, otherwise they will fall off due to their weight.
  • Place the lantern in the desired location and an LED tea light inside.

A notice:Falls dieLantern outsideyou can add a few stones or other weights as it is very light and could be blown away in the wind.

  • Place two LED tea lights in it and put decorative houses over them. (You can also use string lights).
  • Add a mini Christmas tree in one corner (or a group of three of different sizes), as well as other decorations such as deer if desired.

The Advent wreath comes away and this rustic candlestick can now stand in its place. You need one thick one and two thinner onesBranches of birch trees. The smaller ones are supposed to stabilize the larger one, otherwise it would constantly roll back and forth. The stand looks particularly chic and elegant if you use long candles.

  • Glue the thicker branch between the two.
