Living room, bedroom, hallway and even the bathroom: everywhere should be wintery and cozy. If you're already in the process of taking down the Christmas decorations, don't be so quick with the fairy lights. They are perfect for other winter decorations. Would you like a few ideas for decorating for January with fairy lights?
We are simply addicted to these little sparkling lights. It's no wonder that they now light up our rooms even during the warm season. But it will still take a while until then, so here are a few fantastic ideas for January and possibly February too.
White fir trees made of feather dusters
Get cheap feather dusters from the corner store and turn them into pretty Christmas trees that look like they're covered in snow and glow. Due to their neutral simplicity, they are...decorative treesalso suitable for the winter time after Christmas.
- Feather duster
- Scissors
- Fairy lights
- Tree slice or other base
Aside from the fact that this decoration for January looks beautiful with fairy lights, it is also super easy to make:
- Use sufficiently sharp scissors (e.g. textile scissors) to cut the feather duster into shape.
- To do this, start at the tip and work your way down diagonally.
- Don't cut off too much at once, because once too much is cut off, you can't undo it. Instead, work your way up little by little, looking at your “tree” at intervals to check if the shape needs to be balanced somewhere.
- If you are satisfied with the shape, you can remove the handle. This was previously helpful for holding and cutting, but is now unnecessary.
- Wrap the string of lights around the rod of the feather duster in such a way that the lights in the “fir dress” disappear and a dimmed light is created.
- You can use the finished treeson a tree slicein which you have previously drilled holes of the appropriate size. But other bases are also suitable, such as floral foam if you want to make a flower arrangement or Styrofoam. But pay attention to the correct weight distribution, as these materials are lighter than wood and tip over more quickly.
Door wreath as decoration for January with fairy lights
This really impressive door wreath is made from white mounting foam, but you can alternativelyUse cotton wool. However, you then have to attach the decorations to the ring with wire, string or something similar, as the foam can no longer do this.
- Madness
- Metal wreath
- white mounting foam or plenty of cotton wool, but then with white cardboard as a base instead of the wire ring
- winter decorations (e.g. flat wooden houses, Christmas trees)
- Cable ties
- Fairy lights
- Rubber gloves
How to make decorations for January with fairy lights:
- Spread out the foil and place the metal ring on top.
- Place a bowl wrapped in foil in the middle (the foil is to protect it from getting dirty).
- Measure the distance between the bowl and the ring to check whether the former is really in the middle and at the same time to mark any excess outside the ring. The foam will later be sprayed between this marking and the shell.
- Draw the two large circles on the foil: one at the level of the mark and the other at the level of the outside of the wire wreath. They don't have to be perfect, just a guide.
If you are using cotton, cut a circle out of white cardstock. - Wrap the string of lights around the wire (tie it with zip ties) and position it between the two traced circles again, this time with the back facing up.
If using cardboard, attach the string lights to the cardboard using tape or hot glue. - Put on the protective gloves!
- Apply mounting foam to the bottom half of the wreath and press the selected decorations into the still soft foam.
- Then continue with the top half, although you can cover the edges of the bottom decorations a little here and there with foam if necessary. Then everything appears more three-dimensional.
When using cotton wool, you don't necessarily have to work in sections, but you can completely cover the wreath with it and then add the decorations. It's best to use hot glue. - Insert the trees into the foam and let it set.
Important:The thicker the layers, the harder it is for light to shine through. The idea is to make the lights sometimes more, sometimes less visible, so that the whole thing workslike a cloud coverworks. Keep this in mind when spraying the foam and do not apply too many amounts at once.
You could add the cotton wool while the fairy lights are switched on so that you can experiment straight away.

- canvas
- black spray paint (or preferably another color)
- small, artificial fir branches, preferably with wires for bending

- Once you're happy with the arrangement, apply a line of hot glue to the back of each branch and press it back onto the canvas.
- Apply hot glue to the bottom of the cone and glue it to the center of the snowflake.
- Wrap the rest of the string lights around the pine cone to its tip.
