The special thing about the forest fairy's outfit is the fluttery look of her skirt or dress. The pretty creatures also often carry leaves or flowers into stories. So that it really is a forest fairy or elf and not a normal fairy like from Sleeping Beauty, the look should be based on nature, even if only in terms of color.

Use a princess dress

Maybe your child (or you) was last timedressed as a princess? Then maybe you can reuse this dress. Especially if it contains tulle, it is quite fitting. But normal, typical girls' clothes can also be found in almost every girl's wardrobe and can be used.

You can alter this dress if necessary, such as cutting the hem to shorten it. You can also use the petal-like fringes typical of fairy dresses

Buy a tulle skirt or make it yourself for the forest fairy costume

A tulle skirt is conceivableeasy to manufacture:

  • Cut a rubber band to the correct length. It should fit around the hips (for a skirt) or around the chest or below the armpits (for a dress). You can determine the correct length by measuring the circumference of your body and then subtracting between 7 and 10 percent. The rubber should fit tightly, but not be too restrictive or even painful.
  • Tie the ends of the elastic together (if necessary, test whether the circumference fits this way).
  • Now tie strips along the entire elastic. Measure the distance from the elastic to where you want the fabric to end (depending on how long you want the skirt/dress to be).
  • Then double the ribbon (fold it in half), place it around the elastic with the loop facing up, and pull the ends of the tulle ribbon through the loop, enclosing the elastic.
  • Keep doing this until all of the rubber is covered. You can also work with different colors.

For example, wear a long-sleeved bodysuit or a long-sleeved shirt and leggings.

We already have youin another articleShown how you can make fairy wings. Below we have another cool variant, namely made from balloons. To do this, use extra-long balloons like those you know from magicians and clowns: modeling balloons that you can bend and tie.

  • Modeling balloons in 4 colors and sizes
  • String for tying
  • double-sided tape

How to make the forest fairy wings:

  • Bend each balloon into an oval shape and tie the ends together.
  • Place the four sizes inside each other and secure them together using a few pieces of tape.
  • You tie two of these wing elements together.
  • Then distribute four more of these elements on top.
  • You can either glue the finished wings directly to the forest fairy costume or tie loops of rubber bands that the child can then use to get dressed (put the arms through them).

Add something pretty to the outfit for your head. If you tie your hair up, you can simply use a hair tie or a flower or butterfly clip. Also onefloral tiara is suitable.

Would you like something homemade? Just get a headband and artificial flowers.

  • Remove the flowers from the stems.
  • Glue them to the headband with hot glue.
  • You can also add other decorations like artificial branches, leaves, rhinestones or even natural materials like pine cones. The main thing is that it fits with the overall picture.

A flower garland, which is available even in inexpensive decoration shops, also looks very pretty. Simply cut this so that the length fits your head. Then pin them in your hair with hairpins or stick them on a headband beforehand.

Make-up tips for the fairy costume

If you make a forest fairy costume yourself, it will be quite colorful. But when it comes to makeup, that doesn't mean you have to go overboard with bright colors. Fairies are known for their cute, natural appearance, so subtle colors with shimmer and/or glitter (fairy dust) are sufficient when doing make-up for a forest fairy. There is no need to be over the top, especially when it comes to putting on make-up for children.

Use colors that also appear in carnival costumes and in a metallic version. Apply it, for example, to the eyelids or around the eyes. You can also highlight your cheekbones with a little shimmer.

Adults can also stick on some rhinestones or even use false eyelashes. But simple mascara (preferably in a bright color) and eyeliner are also sufficient for forest fairy make-up.
