Instructions for a glowing pumpkin bucket tower
Greet your neighbors and guests during spooky season with some pumpkin faces at the entrance to your house! But you don't necessarily have to spend hours doing thisCarve pumpkins, but you can just use some plastic pumpkins and build a nice tower out of them. If you add a string of lights, your pumpkin tower will sparkle wonderfully in the evening!
These materials are required:
- 5 Halloween pumpkin buckets
- a witch hat
- drill
- Lochbohrer
- Garden stake (at least 60 cm higher than the stacked buckets)
- Fairy lights
- Holzhammer
- wire
Start by placing the buckets upside down on a table and drilling a hole in the center of each bucket bottom. If you don't have a drill, carefully cut out the hole with a knife. The hole should be large enough to slide over the garden stake and at the same time you also need to be able to pull the fairy lights through.
Then decide where you want the glowing pumpkin tower to be and drive the stake into the ground. Since the decoration is otherwise very light, the stake should be inserted about 30 cm deep into the ground. Leave about 12 inches of the stake sticking out above the stacked Halloween buckets so you can put the witch hat on.
To build the glowing tower, thread the string of lights through the first hole. Make sure the cable hangs out enough so that you can plug it into the socket. Then place the first pumpkin bucket onto the metal stake. Leave a small number of lights in the first bucket and thread the string of lights through the next bucket. Then put it on the post too. Repeat this process until all of the plastic pumpkins are secured to the stake. Adjust the string lights if necessary to distribute the lights evenly throughout the pumpkin buckets.
To attach the witch's hat, insert a piece of wire through one side of the hat at the bottom of the cone and then through the opposite side. Wrap the wire around the garden stake below the hat. Then tighten the wire and twist if necessary to keep the hat in place. You can also hot glue the hat to the top pumpkin bucket to keep it in place in the wind.
Plug in the lights and admire the glowing pumpkin tower! You can add a timer that turns the lights on at dusk and turns them off a few hours later.
Atmospheric garden decoration for Halloween: Build a tower of “dancing” pumpkins
You can change the simple pumpkin tower as you wish. Here's another idea to make your own house entrance decorations using inexpensive Halloween buckets. Instead of being stacked straight on top of each other, these pumpkins were tilted to the side, adding a playful accent.
To build this variation of the pumpkin tower you will need the following:
- 5 plastic Halloween buckets
- garden stake
- 5 child size witch hats
- 5 bags and 5 black paper plates as well as newspapers, magazines, paper, bubble wrap or something similar for stuffing the hats
- Blumendraht
- Hot glue gun and glue sticks
- Fairy lights
- Drill and drill
Start by drilling a large hole in the bottom of each bucket. There should be enough space for the metal stake and string lights.
Remove the bucket handles and drill a small hole into the inside of the bucket on both sides, directly through the existing handle hole. This will guide the wire that will hold the witch hats in place.
Now stuff the bags with paper to create a cone. Place the bags in the witch hats so they can stand upright. Glue a paper plate to the bottom of each hat (to weatherproof the decoration, use plastic plates).
Attach the witch hats to the top of the pumpkin buckets by pushing a piece of wire through the small holes on the side of the bucket and up through the hat. You may need to make a small hole to put the wire through the plate and hat brim. Twist the wire a few times to secure the hat.
Now insert the garden stake into the ground where the Halloween garden decoration should stand. Pull the string of lights through the bottom hole so that there is enough wire hanging out to plug in. Place the first bucket on the metal stake and insert the stake through the brim of the witch's hat.
Leaving some lights in the bottom bucket, pull the string of lights through the next bucket and place it on the garden stake. Continue stacking the buckets of lights onto the pole, tipping them into opposite sides.

For these projects, instead of pumpkin buckets, you can use other plastic pumpkins that you find cheap before Halloween. However, if whole pumpkins are used (instead of buckets), you will need to drill them twice to fit the post.
