Fresh table decorations

Maybe everyone knows that when it's gray and cold outside, the bad weather also affects the mood a little. Then pretty flowers for Christmas would be a very good idea, so that your home also gets a Christmas coziness factor. Fresh leafy green, red and snow white in the form of seasonal cut flowers conjure up the perfect atmosphere for Advent. This means that the low temperatures outside no longer stand a chance. Admittedly, snow and winter are rarely associated with flowers, but there are wonderful flowers in the winter months too. Although Christmas plants like the poinsettia, die Amaryllisand holly has become an integral part of the Advent home, the coldest season also brings with it other beautiful varieties.

Poinsettias

Even if mostCut flowers go into hibernation, fortunately there are varieties that give us joy in this cold season. Quite typical are the poinsettias, also known as poinsettias, which are not only available in red but also in white and are often sprayed with gold tinsel by florists. Poinsettias like very bright, cool and well-ventilated rooms. After Christmas and until April they have their rest period in which they hardly need any water.

Ritterstern (Amaryllis)

The knight's star is still known as amaryllis and hippeastrum. Hardly anyone can believe that this beautiful and delicate plant blooms in winter. They delight with the wonderful and even typically Christmas colors of the flowers such as snow white, warm red, but also salmon.

Christrose

Known to be enchanted by their cool winter beautythe Christ rose (Helleborus niger)with their mostly snow-white flowers and dark green foliage. They come in many shapes and colors: white-pink, red and even black-bluish, which produce their wonderful flowers at different times. The beauty of this plant can be deceptive because it is highly poisonous and was used as medicine until the Middle Ages. The Christmas rose has a long history.

mistletoe

For every flower arrangementalso includes fresh greens. When the leaves are already on the ground in December, only a few green plants can be seen. One of the few is mistletoe (Viscum album). It grows in spherical treetops with bright, yellowish-green foliage and milky white berries. Mistletoe has been attributed several special powers in folk history, but above all it is associated with hope.

Ilex and fir

With its deep green foliage and bright red berries, the Ilex (holly) is an integral part of Christmas decorations. In many countries such as England and France it is considered a traditional Christmas plant. Ilex can be used perfectly next to fir trees for the perfect Advent decoration. Optionally you can remove the spines and just use the berries. Without fir branches, the celebration of all celebrations is somehow not right. Especially Nordmann, noble or blue firfor Christmas decorationpreferred because they last a long time and require little needling. But they have the typical scent that a pine tree gives off, for example.

Flower trends

There are also trends when it comes to flowers for Christmas. And this year, flower arrangements that are in one color and complemented with lush greenery are particularly relevant. Red roses look particularly harmonious with the Ilyx berries and fir branches. Another option is to combine white amaryllis with mistletoe and white roses.

Another trend looks rather unconventional at first glance, but stands out perfectly from the typical Christmas arrangements. For this purpose, strong and expressive colors such as orange, red and gold are tastefully put together in the form of a wide variety of flowers and plants. Dried fruits that match the color concept can also be added.

When looking for the ultimate Christmas feeling, any decorations that convey warmth, contemplation and coziness are always a good idea. Classics likered poinsettias, white amaryllis and roses are lovingly decorated with fir trees, cones, Christmas balls and cinnamon sticks.

Make flower arrangements yourself – instructions

Making flower arrangements individually in a flower shop is often very expensive. If you already have some suitable flowers for Christmas in your own garden or as houseplants at home, you can create your own flower arrangement. It's not difficult at all and after a few tries you'll already have the routine. Homemade flower arrangements are absolute eye-catchers, especially as atmospheric table decorations during Advent.

Materials

In order to make a flower arrangement yourself, in addition to beautiful flowers, you also need a pretty container such as a vase, bowl or pot. You will also need a floral sponge in the size appropriate to the container, possibly floral wire and florist's tape, knife, scissors and other decorative materials of your choice.

First and foremost, you should coordinate the cut flowers and the container so that the floral arrangement can ultimately be shown to its best advantage. The larger the container, the more flowers, floral sponge, etc. are needed. You can get the floral sponge in almost every craft store or flower shop. This is brought into the desired shape using a knife and hand and shaped to fit the vessel. Under no circumstances should the sponge extend beyond the edge of the container. Once it is properly cut and shaped, you need to place it in a container of water for a few minutes so that it is well watered. You should not water the floral sponge directly in the container because you could water it and the flower arrangement will smell very bad after a short time.

The floral sponge can be fixed with some florist's tape for additional stability and, if desired, covered with moss. Now the cut flowers are put together and beautifully combined with each other. Beforehand, you should have carefully cut them to fit the container so that the flowers can finally be arranged harmoniously next to each other.
