Do you have to get cucumber or not? We explain the advantages and give instructions and tips

Many beginners in terms of garden are scared when they hear some new technical terms on this topic and do not dare to do some vegetables. Providing is one of these terms, this is a simple care measure that even beginners do not have to fear. Or maybe you already know that from the tomatoes, but did not know that it is also feasible in cucumber plants? But do you have to emit cucumbers or not necessarily? We explain what it is at all, why it is advantageous and how exactly they are.

Why you should make up cucumber plants

The so -called stingy drives are side drives on the plant that grow from the leaf axes. They are usually not fruit -bearing and if (such as in the case of the tomatoes), the size and amount of fruits are lower and not only on these side drives, but also on the main plant. This is simply because the plant has to supply a larger plant mass with nutrients. But not only that: more branches also mean more leaves and other parts of the plant that throw shadows. So there is no longer so much sunlight to penetrate, which of course also affects the quality and quantity of the fruits. Moisture also evaporates more slowly what thatRisk of fungal diseasesincreased.

So if you pull out the cucumber, the main plant remains stronger, which results in larger and more tasty fruits. The plant is kept under control, which is very important and advantageous, especially when youpulls up on a rank aid.

Fore out cucumbers - instructions

The same term, different approach - it is not quite thatAs with the tomatoes. While it should be repeated about every week, it is only necessary for the cucumber plant. Usually only cucumber plants that grow up at a climbing aid are being examined, but freely growing cucumber plants can also benefit from it (but then more often):

Cucumess plants with rank aid

The lower cross drives

  • You can emit cucumbers by removing the lower side shoots up to about 60 centimeters above the floor. You can also snap off buds. As long as these parts of the plant are still young and tender, you can do it with your fingers. Older shoots are tougher and are better cut off with garden scissors.
  • The purpose of this execution is to prevent the formation of cucumber fruits that would be on the ground due to the low height. Teaption through the soil moisture and onePest infestation of vermin, which is on the ground, it is prevented and the watering without moistening the plant becomes easier.

The tip of the cucumber plant

  • You can then also cut the tip of the plant to prevent the growth.

Providing cucumbers without rank aid

Seat the plants without climbing aid more regularly. For this purpose, you can perform some side shoots from time to time, e.g. B. when they are at the momentPouring cucumberOr to harvest. You should do that because the plant is of course weakened when it continues to strive. If you keep them compact, you can look forward to an uninterrupted harvest throughout the season. Proceed as follows:

  • Check the plant for Gürkchen. If two fruits and two leaves have formed on one drive, you can snap off this side shoot.
  • Also follow these side shoots before shortening them. If they also receive new shoots and have formed fruit, you can cut the shoot over the first cucumber and the first leaflet.
  • When cutting the side shoots, make sure that you do not accidentally cut off the main drive!

Notice: In theory, you can also grow arbitrarily as long as the existing place allows it to grow (be sure that you do not overgrow any other plants and thus interfere). However, keep in mind that in this case there could also be a few harvest breaks andFertilize them appropriately. However, as described above, you remove the lower side shoots for the reasons already mentioned.

In the greenhouse

Anyone who has already cultivated cucumber plants without exciting them already knows that they can get a rather impressive size. This is of course less practical in a greenhouse where the space is rather limited. There it makes sense to grow only one or two drives of the plant high and to regularly remove all other side drives.

What you should pay attention to

It is important that you do not injure the main shoots of your plants too much if you get the cucumbers out. Cutting wounds are of course unavoidable, but it is better to keep them small, i.e. carry out the cuts in the as early as possible growth phase of the new instinct if they are still tender and thin. If the shoots are already thicker, be sure to use a sharp scissors (ideally disinfected) and cut it straight. Remember that cracks are the ideal prerequisite for the penetration of pathogens such as mold spores.
