Garden lighting in winter: functional and effective at the same time
A clever lighting concept can put the outdoor area in its best light all year round. But garden lighting is much more than thatdecorative design element. It also fulfills several important functions. For example, it illuminates dark corners, garden paths and pond or pool areas and reduces the risk of tripping. The right garden lights increase the user-friendliness of the entrance area and reduce the risk of accidents at the entrance to the house. The good visibility also increases the feeling of security. So that theGarden lightingNot only does it create a special ambience in winter, but it also offers orientation, there are a few things you should consider when planning.
Illuminate garden paths properly
Garden paths, which are often used even in winter, need to be illuminated not only stylishly but also practically. Bollard or base lights with IP protection class 65 (and higher) are well suited. A timer or motion detector ensures that the light only shines when you really need it. When choosing the lights, the look of the radiators is also a priority. Choose bollard lights that enhance the garden even during the day.
Tip for winter:Place LED lantern around the garden path and between the bollard lights. They create a romantic atmosphere and illuminate tripping hazards such as steps and bumps.
Make the terrace shine
In summer it is the heart of the outdoor area where the whole family loves to hang out. But even in winter, the terrace should be appropriately lit so that the view of the garden is just as beautiful in the evening as it is during the day. It is best to choose glare-free lighting fixtures that you can switch on or off directly from the inside. Spotlights, for example, are well suited - but make sure that the light does not fall directly into the window and cause glare.
Tip for winter:Illuminated decorative columns with integrated plant bowls and LED hanging lights transform the terrace into an atmospheric area of calm.
Put plants in the right light
Even in winter, plants play the main role outdoors. With some trickscan you put them in the right light:
1. Set accents by wrapping particularly beautiful evergreen shrubs or conifers with fairy lights. This creates a true winter fairy tale and the beautiful view stays with you even after the sun sets.
2. Several spherical outdoor lamps of different heights on the lawn or in the empty flower bed add additional depth. There are now many designs available, but battery-powered lights or solar lights are particularly practical.
3. Mobile garden spotlights offer flexibility in winter. They can always be rearranged as needed and aligned with statues, garden fountains or other outdoor decorations.
4. Hanging ring lights are ideal for the minimalist or Japanese garden. The light objects can be used in a variety of ways, for example as lighting for the garden wall or the house wall.
5. Beautifully decorated bowls with natural materials spice up the garden table even in winter. Fairy lights or LED candles can create exciting lighting effects.
Solar light art for the garden pond
Do you have a garden pond? Create a romantic ambience with swimming bowls (necessarily IP 68) and solar rods at the edge of the pond (at least IP 67). Make sure the solar panels are not shaded by evergreen shrubs or conifers. If you have a koi pond, make sure the fish have plenty of dark corners where they can retreat.
Our tip for the winter: Opt for decorative lights that glow in blue or white. They look festive, but you don't have to take them off after Christmas. So you have an atmospheric ambience all winter long.
Practical lighting for garden sheds etc.
Areas that are often visited in the evening, such as the pathto the garbage canor to the bicycle shed, must also be well lit. In this case, downlights with IP protection class 65 or 67 are suitable. It is best to choose models with motion detectors, they are very practical and cost-effective. When installing, however, make sure that the lighting fixtures do not blind drivers or neighbors.
