In principle, you can use hanging pots for all flowers. But not every plant is suitable as a hanging plant. Are you a bit confused now? We explain what we mean.

Flowers in hanging pots vs. hanging flowers

A hanging pot simply means that it is not placed like a normal flower pot, but rather hangs. It can also be hung low, for example on a railing or on a wall. In this case, vertical plants can also be used for planting.

However, if the pot hangs higher, for example on the ceiling or on a branch, vertically growing flowers would no longer be visible, which makes no sense. After all, you want to be able to enjoy the flowers. In this case, you need special hanging plants whose shoots have the property of growing long and eventually over the edge of the pot. The stems are also flexible enough not to break.

Choose a hanging flower pot that is not too heavy. plastic orBaskets lined with coconut fiberare well suited, clay pots less so, as the risk of them falling to the ground at some point due to their weight is too high (remember that it can be stormy even in summer).

The same applies to drainage. Instead of the usual pebbles, Styrofoam, for example, is a better option so as not to add unnecessary weight.

We can't get around ithanging geraniums (Pelargonium x Peltatum)to mention. And before you roll your eyes because you're fed up with the common geraniums you see everywhere, have you ever looked at the trailing varieties? They are no less easy to care for and robust, but appear much more delicate due to their hanging shoots.

If you do, choose a sunny location and water daily, especially on hot days. Otherwise there isn't much to do, as these flowers conveniently clean themselves.

The Gold Marie (Bidens ferulifolia) is also known as “two-tooth”. The shoots can be up to 80 cm long and, due to the many branches, produce numerous flowers that are simply impressive. The flowerlikes it in full sun, which is not always 100 percent possible in a hanging pot. For this reason, you should at least make sure to hang the hanging pot in a place where as much sun as possible can reach the plant (e.g. on the edge of the terrace or balcony roof).

Due to the sunny location, the yellow flower also requires quite a lot of water. Therefore, water regularly, but definitely avoid waterlogging. With these specimens you also get bee-friendly hanging plants.

They are reminiscent of petunias because their flowers are also funnel-shaped, only smaller and more delicate. magic bells (Calibrachoa x hybrida) are available in numerous colors and can be wonderfully combined with each other to create a colorful mix of colors. In contrast to the two specimens, the hanging shoots are not quite as long (30 to 50 cm), but this does not change their beauty.

The flower likes full sun best. However, if this is not the case, it also ariseshappy with the partial shade, but this reduces the number of flowers. Watering is carried out almost every day in summer because the soil must not dry out. Waterlogging should also be avoided.

The small, delicate leaves with theirsilvery shimmer, which grow in large numbers on the long hanging shoots, really attract everyone's attention - this specimen is beautiful to look at even when it is not in bloom. The flowers of the silver rain (Dichondra argentea ‘Silver Falls’) themselves appear in white on the hanging shoots, which are up to 1.5 meters long, which is of course particularly impressive if you let the plants hang from the ceiling (or from the balcony railing).

Watering is carried out a little less frequently, namely only when the soil has dried out to a depth of around 2 centimeters. Accordingly, waterlogging has a particularly bad effect, which is why accumulated irrigation water should always be disposed of immediately.

Not only do they have very pretty flowers, but they also enchant with their reddish shoots, which contrast with the green leaves but complement the flower colors.

Only water when the root ball is dry, so water sparingly. This happens more frequently in summer. You can also spray the leaves from time to time.
